Acacia and Jungle wood doors no longer have a 3D apparent texture

Place down some wooden doors in 14w33a, they no longer have the 3D texture.

This is really one step back from the previous issue where only the Oak doors didn't have it. Also how can there be an issue with 3D doors if they worked fine in the previous snapshot.

To add to this, this issue makes the hitbox of the back-side of the door visible from the front, an annoying visual glitch especially noticeable with Acacia doors.

No bug has been fixed which affects the doors model so i will assume that I'm am right in saying that this bug is valid.

They changed the look so that it would match the oak wood and Iron door image

well thats one step back from before, 3D is better than 2D therefore its the oak and iron doors that should've changed

Jonah Simm

I agree. The 2D effects look awful on the new doors, especially the Acacia door. They should have fixed the Oak and Iron doors instead

migrated

Yeah, I thought something was wrong with the door o.O

migrated

I approve of this bug report. 3D doors are the way, the old ones (iron/oak) included.

Another thing that makes 3D textures essential for the new doors is the hotboxes, what with a 2D texture you can actually view the hitbox from behind but not the texture (making it look like there is an invisible block there even though the door is there).
While this wasn't really a problem with oak and iron it is very apparent with jungle and especially acacia doors.

This is intended as working.

The 3D models made it difficult to see through the openings. The 2D doors are better because you can see outside much more easily.

migrated

i don't care about seeing outside, it looks better and refuse to acknowledge that this works as intended, again 3D > 2D

migrated

How did anyone have a problem seeing through the 3d openings? It was fantastic and they worked fine. Now all the acacia doors I made look absolutely stupid...
If this is working as intended, could whomever decided that please reconsider their intentions?

There are many other blocks and items in Minecraft that are 2D which could have 3D models. Nobody is complaining about them.

The only reason kids are whining about this is because they have been teased with the 3D doors. Remember, these are snapshots and features are not final.

Kyiiel

That doesn't mean it isn't a bug either.

Along with the other changes to the doors (item icon, renaming "Wooden Door" to "Oak Door") it is evident that Mojang was working to bring consistency to the doors, and the change from 3D to 2D is likely a result of that.

@Kumasasa Only source I can see is the wiki

Doors
Original wooden door renamed to "Oak Door"
Grid images of other doors changed to match existing doors
New doors added in 14w32d no longer have their 3D door hole models

That's isn't necessarily official though right? Just noticed?
In any case, as per the posted pic they look dumb now, despite Hawk the kid's zest for them.

@Joseph Charron

Do you think Iron Bars and Brewing Stands look dumb, too?

I'm not saying that the 2D doors look better than the 3D doors. What I am saying is that they still look good. But there was a reason to change either the new doors or the old one (consistency), and there are good reasons for why Mojang made the decision they made (see here, here and the fact that 2D doors are easier to see through like I already mentioned).

“Do you think Iron Bars and Brewing Stands look dumb, too?”

YES! They look dumb. Game content created from 2D faces in a 3D game ALWAYS look dumb.

KnightMiner

This would appear intended, based on the removal of "door_jungle_inner.png", and the models correctly pointing to the basic cube model.

The only reason I can think of as to why is so people making resource packs who do not want to change the model won't have it look bad.

I personally liked them better as 3D, but I guess I can just use a resource pack for that.

Edit: Something else intresting to note is in 14w32d there were two models for jungle and acacia doors, the one used now and the 3D one. It seems they were removed the 3D one, then pointed the blockstate to the 2D one...

Well I guess I just never really noticed it in the old doors, and since we have all these new ones it brings more attention to their detail. See the thing is the new doors have so many open/window spaces, you can really see how peculiar they look. They are still in fact 3D, because there is still an edge to the door, but there is only texture for the outside surfaces. So you see a thickness to it from the outside, and see right away through all the windows that the interior of the door is invisible, and thus 2D. Again I never looked at the old windows in doors that closely to notice, and their placement up high hides this issue well.
Yes, this may indeed be intended. However with the nice new door designs chosen which have windows, the optics of 3D exterior and 2D interior on a single object is awkward, quickly noticeable by players, and defies physics if that matters.
So maybe, Not a bug / works as intended, but needs reconsideration of visual quality before official release.
Perhaps leave the original oak and iron doors as they are if an issue for updating worlds, and make new id's for versions of those with proper windows with interior edges? I am not sure what is involved, but those looked great and should definitely be included in 1.8.

The new doors look really ugly without their 3D effect. The 2D makes them really flat and not as good as the 3D ones

migrated

no-one can just say Works as Intended after a bug report gets lots of votes and everyone in the comments supports 3D doors!

migrated

No inside texture for the windows but you can still see the other side of the hitboxes through the window....wow.

migrated

The status was set to WAI by a Mojang dev.

migrated

i don't care who set it, this report has a lot of support and votes and if the mojang debs quickly rethought this they would realise that there are so many factors that make this a bug, not only the fact that no-one likes the 2D model, the hotbox problem where the hitbox is visible through the window, the fact that it was at one point 3D, and the fact that 3D is naturally better than 2D!

migrated

also its been duplicated 6 times, something that is considered a bug by the vast majority of the community can surely be considered a bug no matter what the devs think, we are the ones who play the game and support the game, and if pretty much all of us are against something that IS a bug then that bug deserves fixing!
