Quick workaround
This issue has to do with skinservers now looking at <UUID>.png instead of <username>.png.
If this annoys you, you can reupload your skin on minecraft.net which will fix this for you.
This may not work 100% of the time.

Uploading a new skin does not fix the issue. When you restart Minecraft the skin texture is again invalid.
Confirmed that workaround doesn't work, or doesn't last, at least. Seemed to fix the problem once for me, but then on the next restart, the problem was back and not resolved by re-uploading.
