When having an item, for example logs, in the offhand slot and colecting more the new items go into the normal hotbar.

The logs stack into the offhand slot

The logs went into the normal inventory
How to reproduce
Go into survvial mode and grab one block
Put it into the offhand slot with the F key
Grab another block of the same type

Confirmed here, hope for a quick fix or next week at least, would be nice especially for torch while mining.
Confirmed, and also related is that items cannot be shift-clicked into the slot even if some of that type of item are already there.
