[MC-83526] End rods don't require a support block

End rods can be placed on the stair sides of stairs, grass paths, the sides of fences, etc, and placing them sideways on tall grass results in them floating.

they don't seem to require any supporting block (you can have them hang in mid air), maybe intended?

Please DO NOT "fix" this. This is cool. Having a new light source that doesn't require support, especially one that looks as interesting as this one, is a fantastic feature that adds visual appeal to the game. These objects are otherworldly. Let them defy gravity. They are not Torches.

Agree, @unknown. Because they are from the End and have those particle effects it just feels like they should be... "magic".
But if this is fixed, it isn't a big deal to me.
