Shields can not be placed on armor stands without arms

As shields are technically pieces of armor, shields should also be able to be placed on armor stands. I'd expect the shield to rest in front of the feet leaning against the rest of the armor.

Note: This also is inconsistent behavior since Armor Stands with no arms can by equipped with a Shield by Dispensers.

You can put it on, and it will render the same like on any mob/player that can hold it, arm through it.
This is the behaviour that mojang intended

I go to click the shield onto the armor stand, and it refuses to receive it. if it were to hold the shield like any other entity, that would be fine, but the shield, sword, and other tools, will not click onto the armor stand.

This sound like a suggestion. If so please post it at /r/minecraftsuggestions

The reason why you can not give a normal ArmorStand a shield or any other hand item, is that the arms are disabled. To create an ArmorStand with arms use the following command (or use the /entitydata command):

/summon ArmorStand ~ ~ ~ {ShowArms:1b}

Why did they switch the arms to disabled? Was so much easier when they were there by default. Also may the records show that I said "Eww Reddit."

If armor stands ever had arms by default, I'm not aware of it. I've attached a 1.8.8 screenshot for comparison: on the left is a default armor stand, on the right is one with arms, using the entitydata command to set ShowArms:true.

Reopening as armor stands can now be equipped with shields using dispensers, but still not by hand.
