New settings get reset when downgrading

When I downgrade from 1.9 snapshots to 1.8 and then play in 1.9 again, settings like "button for switching to offhand" or "subtitles on/off" get reset. They could just be saved and get ignored by 1.8, but instead they get deleted by 1.8 and are lost for 1.9.

Downgrading is not supported. Invalid.

But it always says: Try this snapshot on a test world. They don't expect me to never play in 1.8 again after I tested a 1.9 snapshot, right? And it isn't like I joined a newer world with an older version, I just started Minecraft into the main menu.

Consider this: They add changes to certain functionality. How is the previous version supposed to know of those changes? Instead of crashing, it goes back to the default.
Can you see the future?

The problem is: The 1.8 version actively deletes all the settings it doesn't know. If it would just ignore them, everything would be fine. Of course now that can only be fixed for downgrading from 1.10+ to 1.9, but it's at least something.

I agree with @Fabian Roling, he is stating how to fix this issue, this ticket should be at a Reopened status.

True, but I don't think anybody really uses that between profiles, and as stated above, it's a rather simple fix, ignore, instead of recreate the options saved

Correct. I already use different profiles (Forge 1.8, Optifine 1.8.8, latest full release, 15w35e and latest Snapshot), but as @FVbico said, I start the same game. My game directory is the local folder that gets synchronized by the Dropbox app for Windows, so that I can have my saves and settings on both of my PCs. If I would use multiple folders, many files would get duplicated and it would take much more space on my Dropbox.

This is a problem with your setup, not with the game. I agree that it would be convenient for unknown options to be ignored, however this is a bug tracker and such not the right place for your suggestion. Try /r/MinecraftSuggestions on reddit.

Also affects 1.10 setting "auto jump". And the game can definitely now know which version was opened last. And it's still in the menu, nothing in a world! I understand that 1.9 can't load magma blocks in a 1.10 world, but it could just very easily do NOTHING with the new 1.10 setting. If I want to write "blabliblubb:42" into settings.txt, why can't I just do that and the game ignores it? The fix is just literally just the removal of a line of code that does nothing useful.

For this Problem two solutions

  1. Change launcher not secure (Independient if is premium or no, NOT SECURE)

  1. Get used because is only texture packs for All versions and language for 1.8.9 if you speak English NO PROBLEM but I speak spanish naturaly.
