Old versions of output-server.log and the according .lck files remain in the .minecraft directory after quitting the game.
Minecraft was stopped by "Save & quit to title" and "Quit Game", not by closing.

I am still experiencing it. Granted I just tried out the new client just this moment so I could respond to your question with feedback so I don't know how bad it will be with prolonged use.
In the new client (13w17a) It will generate a new output-server.log file every time I open and close a world. However, unlike the previous client, it does delete 1 or 2 of the files when the game is closed but not all of them.
After loading and quitting my survival world a few times and then closing the game, I am left with the following files:
output-client.log
output-server.log
output-server.log.1
output-server.log.1.lck
output-server.log.2
output-server.log.lck
I am assuming all of those files were to be disposed of once the game was closed, correct?
So I would imagine that if I played like I normally do for hours at a time switching between test worlds that the folder would fill up pretty fast.
Hi, I posted the issue was fixed, but it is back. Using Launcher 1.2.1 and Minecraft 1.6.2 on OS 10.8.4 using both Java 6 by Apple and Java 7 by Oracle.
i have a truly amazing idea that will revolutionize mine craft logging forever !!
have you considered adding a verbose option to the launcher?
this amazing concept has been around since the 1980's and allows you to toggle console output on and off essentially allowing users to suppress unwanted log files HAYO !!!
most users don't need this level of detail and only care about seeing error logs when the client wont run.
how about letting us simply disable logging it works. 🙂
I can confirm this. Have the same issue. Since 13w07a.
