I cannot reproduce this. I took the following steps:

  • Turn all sounds to "Off" while in 1.8.9. (Main slider as well as all other categories). See screenshot.

  • Launched 1.9-pre3, all was as left (See other screenshot). Turned up sounds while in game and sounds immediately worked.

It seems to be rather erratic, as I got a lot of "Missing sound event for thing.subthing" logs when booting 1.9-pre3.

Did some more digging; It seems to be caused by the "assets" tag in the <version>.json file in versions/<version>/. If that's missing, you get the aforementioned erratic boot.

this is a common error that I literally get every 3 days, Sometimes when Minecraft loads up the sound files aren't booted with it or the computer doesn't recognize them. I've had this error since 1.8.0 and I've found that if your computer isn't forgetting to run any of its audio programs a simple re-logging of Minecraft will fix it. if that's not enough restart your computer, and if that's still not enough, run a troubleshooter and view you PC settings to see if anything is amiss. And once, (of course this was right after I installed a mod which I later had to uninstall from my PC entirely and go to a system restore point to fix my computer) I had to reinstall Minecraft. If nothing above works you either have a virus, and internal PC error, or a damaged computer audio filter. Usually though, a simple restart of Minecraft or your operating system will fix it, as this is simply caused by an error from loading Minecraft up.

Note: this is also the cause of an error that limits Minecraft's CPU usage to a fraction of the allowed amount, and usually the cause of the error that makes you unable to join a server and show an error message telling you to restart Minecraft. Like I said THIS IS VERY COMMON.

Any idea on how to reproduce?

does reloading the sound engine (f3+t) fix this?

f3+t did not work

Subtitles dont work ether

Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (currently that is 1.10.2, or 16w42a) of Minecraft?
