On startup, the launcher freezes at around 80-90% and then crashes.

Do you have any minecraft-related third party software installed, or have you had such software installed previously?

There's a file called hosts, you can find it under this location:

C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc

Could you please attach that to this issue?

I used to have forge and mods installed but now I use the technic launcher and my normal launcher doesn't have forge or mods anymore. For the time being I'm using technic launcher to play vanilla, since that one works, but I'm pretty sure that shouldn't have affected the normal launcher's files.

I have McAfee installed but disabled but i do have windows defender activated
