Minecraft installations on launcher no longer line up correctly when last played, meaning you have to keep selecting the snapshot or full versions of minecraft in order to play them on the launcher before you hit play.

Have you changed the sorting to "Name"?

Yes but even that doesn't work, the installations stay in the same spot next to the play button but in the installations menu they move when you last played them.

Hi William, please provide some additional information on the steps you take or which installations you have that are causing this issue. I can't reproduce the bug, it seems to work fine for me.

When I go to select an installation next to the launcher, it doesn't go to the top of the installations, it stays where it was before I selected it, then when I hit play, it still doesn't move to the top of the installation list, so when I play an installation, I have to keep selecting the installation I want to play, I have it set to "recently played". I have no clue why this is happening.

Hi William, if you can help us perform these steps it would be of great help to identify the issue:

  1. Start Minecraft Launcher

  2. Select your prefered installation, and click Play

  3. Close the game

  4. Close the launcher (in case you've set it to stay open)

  5. Navigate to Minecraft Data Folder, and copy launcher_profiles.json

  6. Start Minecraft Launcher again

  7. Click Installations

  8. Take a screenshot of the installatons

  9. Upload both launcher_profiles.json and the screenshot as attachment in this ticket

In particular, I am interested in the "lastUsed" fields which the launcher uses to filter on.

Could you answer few questions regarding this issue, it will help with the investigation: 

  • Does this issue still occurs to you on newest version of Launcher? 

  • Does this issue occur on Launcher downloaded from the website/MS store version?

  • Are you logged in in both Xbox app, MS store, and Launcher with the same MS account? 

  • Is your Windows and associated apps (Xbox app, MS store) up-to-date? 

  • Have you tried to re-registering MS store as written here

  • Do you use VPN or any of the incompatible software on machine you try to log-in?  

  • Could you provide us with more in-depth repro steps?

This bug still persists in modern launcher versions. A simple workaround is to set the setting "Keep the Launcher open while games are running" to true. For whatever reason the launcher closes too early for it to update its place in the last played queue and keeping the launcher open prevents that.
