just installed the launcher, and run it, so it has to update to the launcher on its first try so I just wait but sometime later, it said "failed to update native launcher minecraft." so I tried fixing it, watched a bunch of youtube vids and stuff. didnt do much progress.

This happened to me a couple days ago. I have high-speed Internet and was able to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling the launcher.
Potential fix (worked for me):
>> Search the new Minecraft Launcher in the "Apps and features" section in your Windows settings.
>> Click the app, then "move" it to Local Disk C:. I do not know why but the new launcher does not seem to work if it's NOT located in the C: drive.
