[MCL-20048] Multiple accounts not working properly

The new launcher doesn’t manage multiple Microsoft accounts effectively compared to the legacy one. As you can see in the screenshot, the new one only has a switch button (shown in red) for handling the account switch. It takes the lengthy process of logging in your account every time you wish to switch accounts. On the contrary the legacy launcher allowed for quickly switching between accounts using "pre-logged" buttons (shown in green).

I found a temporary workaround, that may or may not work for you. Copy the launcher_accounts.json and rename it to launcher_accounts_microsoft_store.json it will most likely trigger a duplicate file prompt.

The workaround still requires you to log in and go through the process of switching accounts, and even after you succeed you are presented with this prompt:

can also confirm this and it is quite annoying when I work on servers and one account is my staff account the other is my player account

Agreed. I have multiple microsoft accounts for myself and my two kids on one computer. The prior launcher could display and switch between the 3 accounts at login. The new launcher only displays one at a time. Once logged in to a new account, it displays red error message that the account does not match the microsoft store account that is being accessed. Extremely frustrating....I wish I had not updated the launcher until the bugs were sorted.

Tested this too, I have 3 Microsoft accounts. Can confirm this annoying bug. Switching back to the old launcher for now, but I'll follow this thread.

I'd like to get MCL-20705 unlinked as a duplicate of this, as it isn't. MCL-20705 is talking about how having two instances of Minecraft running with the new launcher causes it to report you don't own the game; this one is asking about the add/switch account feature. They're two entirely different issues.

However, this issue is being resolved as a Working as Intended, which means this is not considered a bug and won't be fixed.

You are unable to add multiple accounts! This is not a pleasant experience.
Not being able to quickly switch between accounts (when we could on the old launcher) is extremely painful.

Can't believe I watched this thread for almost a month just for somebody to tell me it's "working as intended". The functionality to add multiple accounts is completely missing from the new launcher, which makes the legacy launcher better than the new one. That doesn't sound new, improved, or working as intended to me. I'm glad Mojang still supports 3rd party launchers, since 3rd party launchers are the only ones who can get it right apparently.

This is a technical limitation that means that switching between accounts is not possible without relogging into the account that you wish to use. We are exploring the possibility of making switching between accounts more streamlined, but this is a separate feature request that will need to be implemented, hence the resolution of the ticket. While we understand your frustration at certain game feature or mechanics not working as you would always like or expect, please remember that there is not always a simple "fix". How can this be a technical limitation if it works in the old launcher?
And this is not a feature request when the feature did exist in the old launcher and then got removed in the new launcher.
Also Mojang promised there would be no drawbacks if we migrate our account to Mircosoft. This is clearly a drawback and should therefor be fixed asap.

I will not migrate my accounts until I am able to login with multiple microsoft accounts.
But now I will be force to do so?
Again: Mojang promised that there will not be any drawbacks when migrating my account. But this is a drawback.
This needs to be fixed before we are forced to migrate.
Also why is this closed as "Works as intended"?
This is a feature of the old launcher and is missing in the new launcher. This is not working as intended.

And regarding the statement about giving feedback on Discord or the feedback site:
The Minecraft Discord has reached the maximum user limit. So can't give feedback there.
And the feedback website has a post about this issue. But there is no response to it. Yeah but I guess nobody will respond here either.

When inactive accounts are purged spots are opened on discord so check back. I can't make promises but I think the old launcher will be around awhile. Another feedback site is /r/minecraftsuggestions.
