Launching 22w19a and above gives the error message: "Failed to download file. Java runtime manifest is missing the desired component for this platform"

When attempting to launch 22w19a and 22w18a from the microsoft launcher I get the following error message: "Failed to download file. Error details:  Java runtime manifest is missing the desired component for this platform." The error only occurs when trying to launch the following snapshots: 22w19a and 22w18a. The error does not occur when launching older snapshots, i.e. 22w17a, or "latest version" 1.18.2. I have already tried reinstalling Minecraft, the launcher, and Java. I also made sure to update my GPU to the latest driver. I verified that all the download paths and launch options are set to default.

This issue is happening on my Mac Java also.

Just confirming that I encountered this same error message trying to launch Java 1.19 Pre-Release 1.

Edit: Was able to run the game by switching from the Default - Bundled Java run time option to a specific Java 17 exe file path on my computer. So, the issue is something to do with the bundled java run time.

Hello, I had the same issue with my launcher. I tried to reinstall but then it wouldn't even do that. I figured out that i had an outdated Launcher. I was using Windows 7/8. and I installed the launcher for Windows 10/11 and now I have been able to download and play the pre release 1. I think it might be an error between these two Launchers.

If not the case I'm sorry

I posted for the first time here because it was impacting me and three other people I play with (that don't usually touch the pre-releases). That was 4/7 people in the pool affected (nearly all on non-windows OS), so I assumed the issue is bigger than it appears on this Watch List  I've tried a whole bunch of fixes (including uninstalling java, the launcher, trying the "more options" trick, deleting that .jar file), but nothing seems to work. If anyone has any leads for workarounds, I'd be interested in hearing them.

Followed Bill Rothanburg's suggestion of renaming the .minecraft folder and making a new one, which worked as far as it went, but if I have a folder with "runtime" or "gamma" in it, it's not coming up in search - or when I look manually, either. Any ideas what this would be in Windows?

Running a Windows 10 64-bit.

Edit: Just found it in my MinecraftLauncher folder in ProgramFiles(x86)

Further edit: can confirm the above method works for Windows 10 - just rename the .minecraft folder, make a new one, and then switch back. MinecraftLauncher updates automatically and applies it to both .minecraft folders.

I have finally found a solution for this run the check for updates java program and press update wait until its done updating and boom run minecraft and it should work

Per the dev team, this should now be resolved!

Evening Donuts, I can indeed now access and play the 1.19 Pre-release 2. Thanks to you and the Devs. However, pre-Release 5 insta-crashes after the prep bar fills. I'll add to a new (or existing?) ticket.
