I am still having this issue. I can't launch java edition. I'm not trying to install bedrock, just launch Java. I checked the microsoft store and I have no pending installation attempts.

Do you eventually can play Bedrock or the play button stays grayed out?
Also please uninstall older version of the Launcher.
You can also try this.
Go to the Microsoft Store application (https://aka.ms/MSStoreHome) - and go to Library and be sure you've cancelled all/any other installation attempts for this application.
You must install it on the C drive, so then you can navigate back to it (https://aka.ms/JavaBedrockEdition ) and click through to Bedrock or just click Install there and it should install Bedrock successfully via the Store.
