US date format is used for all languages

In English (UK) language option, the date format shows as MM/DD/YY, where it should be DD/MM/YY. The former can be very confusing when you're not used to it.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Go to Settings > Language

  2. Set the language to English (UK)

  3. Go to the world selection screen

  4. Look at the date format

Observed Results:
The date format shows as MM/DD/YY.

Expected Results:
The date format should show as DD/MM/YY.

This problem affects all languages, not just English (UK).Β

I'm playing on v1.19.41 on PC with my computer set to DD/MM/YY format yet the world selector menu confusingly displays the date in MM/DD/YY format.

How has this still not been fixed years later when the vast, vast majority of the world doesn't use MM/DD/YY, including the developers of the game themselves? A similar report for Java has been unresolved for almost a decade.

I can't believe this has started again.Β  I am still on English UK but date is AmericanΒ  format, the rest of the world uses dd/mm/yy.Β  Please can we sort this out it is really confusing.

I've been able to verify that all languages have US-style date format, not just English (UK). Maybe the title of the post should be changed? It also seems likely this affects more people than discussed here as many will not speak English to see the reports.

In Asia, such as Japan, Korea, and China, the date format is commonly YYYY/MM/DD. In particular, Japan often uses the imperial era name to represent the year, so they should properly consider how to fix it (For example: An accessibility setting like "Use the Japanese Imperial Era to Display the Year").

Thank you for your report!
After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.

Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behavior, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.
