texture pack subpacks not working correctly

This bug causes significant lag with subpacks on, making them basically useless.

to replicate:
1. turn on error logging in settings>profile
2. download the test pack or another pack with subpacks
3. activate the pack
4. restart the game
5. click any button that takes you to a different screen

observed result:
the next loading screen will take 5-10 sec (for me, my device is somewhat low end) to load and will show a loading bar
it will not appear again until you restart the game or exit and leave a world/server
this error will also be thrown:
19:31:39[Texture][warning]–Failed to find either texture set or image file of name (ms–appx:/data/images)

expected result:
an unaffected loading screen with subpacks on

Im having the same issue now (1.17 beta) but for me its only when i open the settings menu in game it throws this same unhelpful error

Still happening on 1.17. The slider doesn't change the pack unless you either restart or deactivate-activate the pack.

it's because of the pack itself. i am as a minecraft texture pack maker also know why this problem exist, i also successfully created a pack that could simply crash the entire game. including for the ios

Is this still an issue in the latest version (1.17.11)? If so, can you please add it to the affected versions (or mention it if you are not the reporter).

Its still happening on 1.17.41

Still happening to me on 1.19.50. It's only happening within worlds (Global Resources or World Resource Packs), after leaving one (Global Resources), and right after applying the pack in Global Resources, and not when the game is initially loaded with packs applied after a restart.

This still happens in 1.19.51 for me.

However, and this may be a seperate bug (I can make a seperate report if necessary) I have only noticed it happening when the pack is in the development_resource_packs folder. Not in the normal resource packs folder like where packs are put into when they are automatically imported.

Also, the pack I used only modifies the json UI, not any texture files yet I was still getting a content log error of a missing texture.

@unknown If development_resource_packs folder is still affected please write new report.

Regarding bug activity and that I was not able to reproduce, closing. Please comment if it is still an issue, so we can reopen the bug, or please create a new one.Β

This is also happening to me in 1.20.73 with the pack in the resource_packs folder as well. I tested this with a bunch of resource packs, and found that for me, the error only shows up if there's resource packs with subpacks AND texture variants. Only happens when I open the settings screen, and the subpack in the edit world screen always resets to the last one and can't be changed.Β
