Water not flowing where it should

When placing a water source, if there is a path for it to flow downward, it will flow only in that direction and not spread in any other direction from its source point. Placing blocks in the path of the water can force it to flow around them, and it continues flowing over those points after the blocks are removed.

In addition to source blocks, this behavior also happens with a downward slope water block.

This issue works as intended. If you have a feature request, head over to the Minecraft: Pocket Edition Forums.

If water finds a downward slope before reaching its maximum spread, then it will flow in that direction only and the spread count will reset.

In your rush to get through a bunch of issues, you only skimmed this one. You were confused by the inclusion of the second screenshot. I added some notes to the issue description for clarity.

There is no downward slope. It is placed on a flat surface. Look at the first screenshot.

Read the workaround (not pictured). Why would placing a dirt block in its path and removing it cause the water to behave completely differently in exactly the same conditions, block for block? It wouldn't, but it does, because this is a workaround for a bug.

While this isn't WAI as @unknown points out, this issue is incomplete because even the original reporter doesn't know how to reproduce it reliably. Without knowing that developers can't fix the bug.

...But I hesitate to close it as Incomplete because someone may find a way to repro it.

Right. My apologies. 🙂

Sorry, I guess I missed the instruction that steps to reproduce were a requirement for creating an issue. I have encountered it twice by accident, and I have tried to reproduce it on purpose without success. The next time I set up a water trap, I'll keep records of what I do in case the bug strikes again. Then I should be able to go back and find what I did to create it.

When I created the issue I had hoped that someone who knows the source code would have an "a ha!" moment and know the cause anyway, or perhaps someone else would encounter it and know how to reproduce it, as you say.

There was some initial confusion, but I have now clarified and provided steps to reproduce with 100% reliability. This bug is wreaking havoc on construction of my water spleef arena. It actually happens anytime water from a new source block will flow downward anywhere in its spread. Will I be updated when it is submitted for testing?

Also, please add 0.16.1 to affected versions.

Added screenshots of placing and removing blocks to force normal water behavior.

On Xbox One seeing a lot of inconsistency when placing water. It either trails in a straight line, or fans out partially to full. There's no consistency to its behaviour. If I place a water source block on a flat surface, expected behaviour is for it to fan out in all directions. This doesn't always happen (it rarely happens). I'll usually get a single line in one direction, or a partial fanning effect. Seems to behave worse in hill areas. As it flows downwards it gets broader and covers more ground.

happens on 1.2.1(Windows 10)

Cleaning up old tickets: This ticket has not been updated recently (1 year+) so is being closed as Cannot Reproduce. If you feel this is still a valid issue then please comment, or create a new ticket following the Issue Guidelines.
