Closing a book and quill after writing in it deletes all the text. Signing a book does work and just returns a blank book.
Steps to reproduce:
open a creative world
obtain a book and quill
write in the book and quill
close the book or sign it
open it
Result: the book is now empty again
intended result: the book retains the text

Jake Rozewicz: can you reproduce this in a local world, or only on a Realm?

I tested both on single-player world and on our Realms Server. The book and quill seems to work again as intended! Thank you ever so much!

I wonder if there's some kind of sync issue? I had the same issue on Realms with a book and quill. I added text, put it onto a lectern and it was blank. I tried again, and then signed the book, and it was still blank and so I left it in my inventory.
Then a few minutes later, I looked in my inventory again and it was suddenly a named book with right text, so I put it down on a lectern. But I picked it up again and then the signed book completely disappeared (did not go into my inventory).
I was able to create a new book/quill and add text, and that seems to now be working fine (even picked it up/put it back down onto the lectern with no problems).
And I had just previously created the same book on my local world with no issues.
This did happen on the same session as the name tag issue.

I experience the same thing even after signing the book. I'm on version 1.17.40 on a Realm.
