Every time I use a glow ink sac on a sign, the text disappears.
I've tested this with multiple texts, problem appears on unmodded bedrock realm.
*EDIT* text now disappearing on signs and books with or without ink/dye applied.

I've found this happens when you try to use any dye on a sign :^(
Curious, hopefully it gets resolved soon.

Likewise seeing issue with application of any dye.

It's anything to do with text or writing, anvil renaming, writing in books, writing on signs or typing in chat, for realms atleast, if your friends don't see your sign then you know the sign is broken and also they don't see my chat messages

Yeah, I'm having this issues now too, what's weird is it just starting happening. I did a whole bunch of signs before this happened. I'm having text on sign just disappearing too. It's just odd. I'm having that old issue of anvils not letting you rename stuff occasionally as well. I'm on windows 10, playing on my realm, in bedrock.

I'm experiencing a similar problem with signs, also in Realms with 1.17.30, but not limited to Glow Ink. A standard dye also causes text to disappear. Unmodified signs seem to behave normally, though, i.e., text remained visible. This was tested with Birch and Dark Oak signs using Red dye, Yellow dye, or Glow Ink Sac.
When applying the dye/ink, the color change can seen for a fraction of a second, but then the text disappears.

There may be a deeper issue with signs, possibly related to 1.17.30's changes to text handling generally. I noticed in the release notes: "Unicode font now correctly highlights on Signs with glowing text (MCPE-130072)"
I also noticed a different behavior last night, that I suspect may be related to this issue. I'm wondering if both issues are bugs related to Unicode parsing and thus that bug fix. That other issue is that while a sign that contains color codes and carriage returns looks correct immediately upon placement, if one leaves and returns (causing the chunk to reload), the sign renders as if the user hadn't entered any carriage returns, messing up the layout and the coloring. (See MCPE-143813).

Adding to the list. Same problem here with two different accounts. Also having an issue where I can no longer name things with an anvil.

I cannot reproduce this in a local world. Can anyone else? If not, I will move it to the Realms project.
Robert Levandowski: thank you for mentioning the other tickets. I think you are likely correct that the fix to MCPE-130072 has caused this issue and REALMS-9214.
There is also a more fundamental and longstanding problem with string parsing on Realms captured by REALMS-2514, REALMS-3491, REALMS-3508, REALMS-5898, REALMS-7204, and REALMS-8889.

I cannot reproduce in Realms either in 1.17.32. Can anyone else confirm that this is fixed?

I am on a Realm right now, and I can confirm, it is not fixed. As soon as I applied either dye or Glow Ink, the text disappeared. It seems to affect some Realms, but not others. I took screenshots, but cant find them on my PC.

can confirm it is still not working.

I've had the same issue on Win10 on my realm. It happens when I have not placed any dye or glow sacs.
I was able to log in to my realm on the iOS version and update the signs, but the formatting wasn't correct–all the linebreaks disappear. When I tried again on Windows 10, the text appears on the sign for a little while, then disappears. Today the text just appeared for a second, other times it will stay until I leave the area and come back.
[media]Reply from @unknown: please see REALMS-8889 for line breaks disappearing, and REALMS-9191 for general text disappearing.

I can confirm on Realms text disappears when glow ink is applied.

I can confirm on Realms that text disappears when dye is applied

Still disappears after update 1.17.40

I have this issue as well (Xbox One, Realms, 1.17.40). Whenever I apply dye or squid ink to the sign, it makes a little squelching sound and the text disappears.

This issue remains on my Windows 10 Realm in 1.17.40. Dyes and glow ink applied in the past remain, but no new ones can be created without erasing the sign. I am the realm owner, and when I make a local backup of the game, the signs can be dyed and glow ink applied in single-player with no issues.

Relates to MCPE-146229, REALMS-9191 and REALMS-9223.

I have observed that when creating a sign, text does appear in the client, but often does not save to the server. If I create a sign I can see the text but other players see only a blank sign. I will see it blank myself when I either log off and log back on, change dimensions, or apply ink to the sign. It seems like the text never saves to the server so any action that would update the sign block with whatever is on the server reveals that it saved as a blank sign.

This bug appeared at the same time as these bugs on Switch (could be related):
Unable to rename anything on anvil
Text disappears on signs (only new or recently updated since patch)
Updated book text disappeared
Book empty

I've been experiencing this issue quite a bit on my realm. I've noticed its quite inconsistent. Sometimes the signs and books work as expected. Usually its only for a short period of time before the bug comes back.

I recently purchased a Realm and I'm experiencing similar issues. For me and the players on my Realm, applying a glow ink sac on signs doesn't work. This doesn't happen in normal words, only when it's put into the realm.

As of 12/2/21 Any time any player including myself uses a dye or glow sac on a sign, the text becomes invisible instead of colored. Reloading the world or waiting for it to load does nothing, it remains blank permanently until broken. This wasn't an issue until the original bedrock world was uploaded onto realms. Issue has been ongoing since the first day, so about a month. This is even after 1.18.

Until this problem is fixed, is there any way to consistently make some sort of sign with text? For example, can I do it if I use a certain kind of wood or avoid certain characters? Right now, I can't seem to figure out a way, and it's a bummer since signs are the only way for a player to communicate with offline players, i.e., when chat isn't an option.

Can this bug be re-named? It should be something that reflects the current issue, and eliminate the reference to dyes and glow ink sacs.
Proposed replacement: Text disappears on signs and in books
Why? As noted in the bug's description:
*EDIT* text now disappearing on signs and books with or without ink/dye applied.

The more general problem with text disappearing from signs is tracked at REALMS-9191, and from books at REALMS-9223.

Still happening on 1.19 bedrock realms. How is this still an issue...
