Note
This ticket is now being used to track continued crashing when trying to leave the nether on Playstation after the fix to MCPE-149193. It seems that worlds that were opened in 1.18.0 or 1.18.1 and crashed when trying to leave the nether are continuing to crash the same way after the hotfix.
If you think you are affected by this bug, please check your crashing is not actually caused by the world seed itself. If you create a new world with the same seed and it immediately crashes, please see MCPE-149659.
I was in the nether when the 1.18.0 update was released, and now i can't get out.
I tried going to the overworld through three different portals I have in the nether and every single time i try, the game crashes while trying to generate the world, and when I restart it, I'm still in the nether.
If I kill myself, the game crashes as well, but when I restart it, I spawn in the overworld (this is obviously not a solution because if that is my only way out of the nether, I can't take to the overworld what I loot in the nether). If, once in the overworld, I go to the nether again, the same happens. So the portals work well if I want to go to the nether but not if I want to get out of the nether.
Also, when I kill my self and spawn in the overworld, everything is modified. The blocks of my buildings are moved and placed randomly, and the terrain generates squares full of water where i had structures, destroying everything I have created. Sometimes there are even no textures, just purple and black blocks.
I am desperate. I have been working in this survival world for a long time and I don't wanna lose everything.

Are you able to transfer this world to a realm and then download it from there onto a PC or phone to export the world file?
Several comments on MCPE-149214 also describe crashing every time they try to leave the nether in conjuntion with lag in the overworld. Also this comment describes issues with overworld blocks similar to this report. So this may be the same issue.

It's true that there are some comments that describe similar problems as mine, but I haven't notice any lag to be honest. But yes it could be the same issue since in that threat they relate the nether crashing with the blocks issues, which is what is happening to me.
Regarding the possibility to export my world file, to do that I guess I need to have Minecraft for PC as well right? Cause I don't have it... so I could upload it to a realm but not download it on PC.
Thanks!

Thank you for your report!

What are the coordinates where you are trying to exit the nether? Did you make a backup of the world when updating to 1.18.0?

The coordinates (in the overworld) that I used to go to the nether were: -375, 45, -1. But I tried going out the nether through 3 different portals far away from each other and it didn't work with any of them. I even made a new portal in the nether and it crashed as well.
Anyway, I bought windows 10 edition, uploaded my world to a realm and downloaded it on windows and it worked perfectly. No crashes at all, not even when trying to exit the nether.
I am going to upload the world from windows to the realm and download it on PS4 to see if it works. But it's weird because I can create a new world on PS4 and play without problems.
So something whatever is happening is happening only to my world and only on PS4.
And yes, I made a backup copy of the world before uploading it to 1.18.0

Would you be able to provide a copy of the affected world that has only been copied and exported, but not opened, during the Realms -> PC transfer?
Also, can you confirm whether the world works correctly back on the PS4 after having opened it on either PC or Realms?

I had already opened new world in seed to see the differences in spawn area. I had no problem opening world but I did spawn in different area and area that was original spawn in older version was vastly different, minus 4 villages, no desert where there was a lot of desert, the inland sea was now forest. The only thing recognizable was a Illager Outpost in between 2 villages by a river. Despite changes in biomes and a lot less desert I had no problems starting world in same seed. I have tried porting back to the surface world through 3 different portals to different areas and I crash everytime trying to load the surface world. Before this it would crash once or twice but eventually surface world would load but not this time. I am trapped in nether. The area I am trying to load now is mushroom island where I haven't done much, just some chests in a cave, some ovens burning kelp, and I just added a conduit. I have been following treasure maps for the past week so this was first time in week that I ported to the Nether and now I am trapped there

After reading above I tried idea that didn't occur to me. Luckily I keep ender chests by all my nether portals so I took off all my gear, put it in a skulker then put it in ender chest this way my stuff would not be left in the nether. I then jumped in lava and died. This loaded the surface world finally. I immediately checked out the area and everything was as it normally was, nothing missing, no new biomes or crazy blocks. Then I thought if the surface world can load then I should be able to get through without dying and thought maybe since the surface world just loaded it might have negated whatever the cause for it not loading when trying to load surface world through nether portal. I saved/quit, deleted save, made new back up copy from back up copy then loaded world. It still crashed 3 more times I tried but on the 4th try the world finally loaded just as I was ready to give in and settle for jumping lava. So far everything seems normal in area I opened. I will not go into nether until next hotfix that is for sure

I'm having the same issue after the last update, my world size is 670MB. I only crash when i exit the nether at my home base. When i choose a different portal, it does load in (that portal does need to be about 1000~ blocks from that base).

PS4 player here. Same issue. I've tested with multiple portals in my Nether, and it looks like the crashes might happen more frequently with overworld chunks that haven't been loaded recently. However, there do appear to be intermittent periods where the crashes will occur in unbroken succession- even with areas that have been loaded recently and frequently, followed by periods of relatively unhindered interdimensional travel. When the crashes are in full swing, it can take upwards of 20 or more attempts to reach the Overworld through a given portal. Usually, the successful attempt results in a crash but reloading the save file will place me in the correct destination, if not at the exact coordinates. Most of the time I'm (guessing) about 30 - 50 blocks away.

I'm still having the same problem on my PS4, and 1.18.10 hasn't solved it.
I don't have any problems with frequent nether portals in and out of my base, but whenever I try to leave a distant nether portal that I only visit occasionally, Minecraft crashes. (CE-38700-8)
Only if I go to that location from the overworld and enter the portal, I can enter and exit normally.

Update: since the installation of update 1.18.12, the same crash results in catastrophic failure to the point where the PS4 locks up during error reporting and corrupts the save file. Thankfully I make periodic backups, but Minecraft has literally become unplayable on my long term world as a result.

the release of 1.19 has not solved this issue for me. It actually seems to have made it worse. I can enter the nether just fine. I just can't leave unless I jump in lava. Once I respawn in the overworld everything is fine for about 30 minutes until the game crashes and the file is unable to be loaded.

Im in the same boat. An old world which I don't want to give up. But with 1.19 it has gotten worse for me: I can't leave the nether at all, not matter how often I try, Mincraft crashes. After some attempts the crash is so severe that the whole Playstation 4 locks up - can't stop or kill the PS4 error handling and I need to cut power. The world is then corrupt. I can download the copy from PS+ cloud fortunately - but I'm not able to get this to work again. I hate to start from scratch...

Having this same issue. World created before 1.19 and updated. I was able to exit through one nether portal but all others crash the game upon attempting to leave the Nether. Also killed myself so I’d spawn in the overworld and went back in to get my stuff, but game crashes when I try to exit.

Same problem in 1.19.10. Unfortunately the game autosaved right when I was standing in the portal and about to go through, so everytime I load up my world I get the "generating world" screen for going from the nether to the overworld, and then it crashes. I'm stuck and I basically lost my 3.5 year survival world if this doesn't get fixed or if the fix doesn't work for worlds which have the bug.
If you have a copy of the world available, you might like to upload a copy of it for investigation.
Here are the steps to copy a world save on PlayStation:
Make sure your BLANK USB stick has been formatted to FAT32
On your PlayStation, go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device > Select Minecraft > Select Saved World to copy > Copy
This should then copy the world save to the USB, which you can share to a file sharing site such as OneDrive, and then share the link.
OR upload the world to a Realm, and then download the world on Windows 10 or Android/iOS. _(Please do not purchase a Realms subscription just to provide a world to us - but if you have a Realm already this may be a viable option if you wish to do so.)
If the world is larger than 10MB you can upload the world to OneDrive or a similar file sharing site, and then share the link.

With PS4 2.47 and bedrock 1.19.21, my world no longer crashes when entering or leaving the nether portal.
PS4 2.47、統合版1.19.21では、私のワールドではネザーポータルに出入りしても、クラッシュしなくなりました。
Thanks for the feedback, resolving issue.
(For any new or ongoing issues, we'd recommend making use of the search feature before writing a new bug report, but if a new one is needed, please refer to the issue guidelines shown here and include a copy of the world so that we can reproduce the bug.)
