I've just updated to 1.18 on my PS4 and there is so much lag in the mechanics of the game, opening chests, doors, gates, interacting with villagers, killing mobs, using fireworks to fly. So much just isn't working. I use the word lag as sometimes, after about a minute, a few sound effects play and then the system seems to have caught up again, only to lag one more but most of the time, things are just seeming to not work.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of these issues?

I'm on the xbox one and the lag issues for me have made it unplayable. Old world, creating a new world, even just opening the game in the menus everything is stuttering and all over the place.

I'm on windows 10 and I'm experiencing the same lag of the mechanics even with the lowest settings - can't open chests, doors, buttons, can't mine, minecarts are not working and dissapearing when I try to break them.

I'm having trouble with opening chests and mining as well. Currently I'm more concerned about the mining. When I tried to mine, the blocks would break without particles or dropping anything and then they would either replace after some time had passed or they would show delayed particles and lagging item drops that I could not pick up. The former resulted in me getting suffocated and killed even when I 'escaped' the replaced block and made it about 20 blocks away before dying of suffocation in an open area.

We have experienced the same when connecting to a Bedrock Dedicated Server. It is not just a reduced user experience, it is quite unplayable. Clients are using Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Note: World was running fine on the Caves and Cliffs Experimental features prior to the update.

I play on an Xbox One and I get the same lags. I broke one piece of beetroot, but it took 11 seconds to actually break and drop, then another 5 to pick it up.

I have this exact same issue on PS4, player movement and block interaction do not respond in real time and mobs of all type won't remain loaded.

This is unacceptable I can't play survival that I decided to delete my 1.16 survival world I hope they fix this when 1.18.1 or 1.18.10

So, after some additional debugging... When I am on the server by myself, it seems that the mechanics are okay. But as soon as a second person joins, the lag immediately spikes to the point of not being able to open chests, open crafting tables, etc. Blocks take ~60s to break, when they actually do, etc.
After some testing, it seems like as soon as either person exists, performance returns to acceptable; almost immediately.

I attempted to mitigate the lag by removing all item frames and armor stands, minecarts with hoppers and literally bringing visuals to the lowest of the low in my single survival game and even then it was quite unplayable. I have experienced a lot of the issues mentioned by the posters above. This is on a ps4.

My girlfriend and I had the same issues. The lag was horrible. Our area was unplayable and she would still see my character standing somewhere I left more than a minute before. We were planning on moving to an area with the new generation and when we eventually started flying enough blocks away from the old builds (about 500 blocks) it al started working as normal. We can play fine now, but you shouldn't have to leave your area to be able to play. With the update already delayed, which is fine if that's what is needed for it to come out polished, it is unacceptable it's released in this state.
This issue is possibly closely related to MCPE-120971. Similar issues were tracked prior to 1.18 in MCPE-120971.

Issue MCPE-148531 Minecart with chest don’t open is not related to this lag issue see comments added to that task (and please re-open it)
Could you please let us know if this is only happening in a Realm or multiplayer world? Or does it happen if you are playing alone in a local world?

@Mega_Spud The lag is on realms, multiplayer, and local worlds. I've tested on PC and Tablet. I get about 30fps in my world now when I used to get 120+fps. Minecraft bedrock needs to have some major performance improvements.

I help run an server that I trimmed and update. We started in 1.17 and made a chunk town, everything outside of chunk town was pruned. Now piston doors have anywhere from a few second delay to 30 seconds delay. Also had lots of complaints of "lag" from every one, issues of not being about to fly, and chest opening slow. All this happened with as little as 2 people on.

Is the lag the same if you sign out of your Microsoft account or play offline? (Similar to MCPE-142692)

In our multiplayer world, we found it occurs if you’re playing alone or if both of us are there. With both of us it’s so much worse. We can’t play anymore, it’s impossible. The lag is just too much. Shame, we were just about to explore the END for the first time…

@GoldenHelmet No matter what, there is lag.

My lag was really bad exploring chunks I had not visited before. I was walking a west to east route after exploring areas north and south of the line I was travelling. I had no issues when in already loaded areas.

New bug! Most likely related to this lag issue! If we get 100 blocks away, there is nothing. We freeze then it crashes. This update has gone well…

Amanda: can you share a copy of the world where that occurs?
Everyone: does the lag only happen during auto-saving? You can turn on the auto-save icon in video settings to see when the game is perform auto-save.

This happens at any time in the world, Is seems like there is extreme TPS lag and the game is processing you in a location you were in about a minute ago. There are other parts of my world that are fine with little building and generated in 1.16. It seams that TPS lag in areas is getting amplified from what it was before. I can send you a copy of the world if you wish.

my game is crashing about 2 out of 3 times porting from the nether and takes longer, lag on chests and doors, swimming on land, can't place ender chest, items disappear when you try to pick them up

I think I have this issue to (v 1.18.0), for the first time ever (never had it before with 1.17.x or older). In my single player world that's on my android device I experience server type of lags, like when you break a block and you wait couple seconds to see and hear block's breaking or when you wait for pick a stuff that floats on the ground. Same with opening/closing things or punching mobs, everything has delays. And then it stop's for a while (couple of minutes I think), probably without time regularity.

After updating an existing survival world to 1.18, I am experiencing extreme lag to the extent that I am unable to place blocks, mine blocks, open fences or open doors. In addition, villagers, tamed mobs and named pets all despawn in areas where they have previously “lived” for months or years. (I don’t think the despawning issue is a strict duplicate of MPCE-144208 because in this 1.18 world the villagers and mobs are despawning while I am still in the game, sometimes while I am in the same chunk with them. In fact, a named horse I was riding despawned while I was riding it!)
@GoldenHelmet: The lag occurs during auto-saving and also when not auto-saving.
The world I am playing in was originally created in version 1.6 or 1.7 and I have been playing that world regularly throughout all updates up until now. The world size is 259.1MB.

I have a minecraft world about the same size doing the exact same thing. I had this world get the same size and then blue screen crash and then become corrupted. I had to rebuild from an early copy but the same exact things are happening to my mobs and named animals. Villagers disappear and then the villagers that remain repopulate and half my village is baby villagers.... I lose all my high level villager trades. This is a serious issue I don't wanna lose my villagers all the time. It happens inconsistently.
Random 1.18 world generation is coming through the "seams" of the world. Trees appearing floating and random mountain blocks appearing in places that there was nothing before. Ice spikes appearing in middle of swamps. It's a mess. The release was nice and you guys did a great job but if yall could please look into this issue it's kinda of weird and ruined my world once already.

Copies of affected worlds could help tremendously. If you have a PC you can export the world to a .mcworld file, upload it to a file sharing site, and post the link here.

@Mega_Spud @GoldenHelmet I was able to do some more thorough debugging, here are my results:
Playing on a Bedrock Dedicated Server with an existing world; clients were Windows 10 and Windows 11.
1st Player on was fine and normal regardless of being in existing or new chunks
2nd Player joins far away in world, it becomes extremely laggy and game mechanics fail
2nd Player leaves world, the game was still laggy but better
Logged out and back in, appeared where was several minutes prior to exist; but no lag
2nd player logged in at the same chunk as 1st player. Some lag and mechanics start to fail but seemingly not as bad (hard to quantify)
Seems to worsen when they leave the chunk, but may just be the time in game (see below)
1st Player in nether, by self on server, all is okay... 2nd player logs in the Overworld. takes a minute but lag returns
Lag gets noticeably and quantifiably worse as time goes on as judged by delay from breaking block to item appearing on the ground
Both players moving to new chunks makes game work perfect almost immediately
One player moving back into existing chunks causes lag again, worse as time goes on
Creative and survival seems to make no difference

In case it matters, we were around the build at -243, -1121 for most of the testing; heading east or north is new territory (generated with 1.18) that eliminated lag. This is a backup from the other day (i.e. prior to the above tests) but this copy was uploaded to the server and verified to exhibit the lagging when it was there.
This is a member on our server with some gameplay footage to show what we are experiencing:

@GoldenHelmet I’m not sure how to get it to do that as it’s on xBox One and we don’t have it on PC, we also don’t have Realms. Our save file is 976MB so that’s probably why we’re having so many issues. We found this morning it now works if we leave our town and go 100 blocks away, but sometimes it doesn’t generate and we run into a blue wall. We just about managed to get to the END which finally works, but we can’t go in our town at all. Chests won’t open in town and doors don’t, we can’t farm… we’re currently taking shelter in the stronghold.

Hi
For Win 10 users affected by this lag - Can you please make a screenshots of CPU usage from task manager -> performance? Please also note CPU usage levels in general while playing. It would be very helpful.
This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.

Same issue here, win 10 bedrock. uploaded screenshots of task manager utilization
Why is the issue marked as resolved when its not?

Hi
Issue is awaiting response from reporter, it will automatically reopen when he replies.
Thanks for screnshots. Have you noticed any spikes in usage when lags/delays occured?

Hi Maciej,
No spikes. Just happened with 1.18. I wish i had screenshots before the update as it seems the high CPU usage isn't normal.
Lag in opening chests, crafting table etc. No lag when opening furnace or hoppers. Breaking blocks almost impossible. Game is not playable like this.
With the issue marked as resolved, are there people still looking into it?

I'm running a server to play with my friends, and we all have the same exact issue since the update to 1.18. There is no spike when lag occurs. It's just constant lag whatever we do.

Not sure if you need more reports of this, but I also started experiencing the same server lag with 1.18.
Shortly after joining, as the chunks first start loading on my Windows 10 client, server lag makes the game unplayable (lag in breaking blocks, opening chests, fighting mobs, etc.) This is with one player in previously explored chunks.
Worked great before with no lag in previous versions.

I just started a brand new world to test.
Zero lag, doors, chests etc open like normal. CPU usage at 19.5%
So this affects just my only (old) world.

If you need, i can export my ps4 world save to my pc and send it to you afterwards.
Tell me
Reply from @unknown: that would be great. I think the more worlds we have to investigate at this point, the sooner we can narrow down on what is triggering the problem.

Stuff just disappears when you try to pick it up. If you mine a couple blocks to get past wall the blocks disappear but when you try to fill the hole with different blocks the original blocks all reappear at exact same moment in other words you go to replace 2 cobblestone with 2 diorite and as soon as you try to place 1 diorite both cobblestone are back in place. Can't place ender chest, can't pick items up as they just disappear, can't use buttons or plates to open doors, can't open chests sometimes, game crashes when porting from nether to surface world, sometimes when porting to surface world it generates wrong and mixes biomes together but if you delete and load back up biomes go back to normal, swimming on land, unable to swim in water. My base is totally unplayable on ps4 bedrock world

I’ve updated my old world on Xbox series X to 1.18 with no problems before to sudden huge lag spikes after the update. No sound effects, blocks instantly disappear then reappear when updated, can’t open chest, cant open doors/gates, can’t get to the nether and can’t use elytra. It’s really annoying and makes the game unplayable.

XBOX ONE large (1.5Gb) world has the same problem but it appears to predominantly occur in highly populated areas with many MOBs. All my villages result in extremely slow server responses to the client inputs.
I have tried to reduce the chunks that are processed but seems to have little impact on the response of the server side.
I do not have on line servers or participants.
I do not know how to export a world from my XBOX otherwise would be prepared to do so.

Playing on Nintendo Switch and also having similar issues. Is anyone else having problems with mapping on top of it all? The chunk loading lags so badly (especially while auto save is happening) that where flying in creative mode to generate the world and complete Lv. 4 maps used to be a great convenience, it is now a major hassle. It takes ages to complete Lv. 4 maps now...
Edit:
Also of note (for NSwitch players, at least) the problems persist in worlds downloaded from the Marketplace as well.
Additional edit:
Just to clarify, the lagging occurs on NSwitch in single-player, multi-player, online, offline, new worlds, old worlds, small worlds, and large worlds all the same for my son and I, both using our own consoles. It seems to be worse during auto-save, but still occurs when not auto-saving. Also, does it seem to be auto-saving a lot more frequently to anyone else, or is that my imagination?

I've noticed the same thing on Android. There is lag and when I go to break stuff there is some lag and I have to wait at least a few minutes before It actually breaks then there is some chunk lag as well too

I have the same issue on my X-Box One. It takes a dozen or more clicks to pick up a dropped item. When mining, blocks disappears without a sound and do not drop for 3-10 seconds, and once they drop, they can't be picked it up for another 3-10 seconds. Worse, if I continue to mine without waiting for the blocks to drop, they reappear in un-mined form right where I mined them.
The game is unplayable with these problems. Oddly, Minecraft worked great at first after the new update. This morning (about seven hours ago) I played with no problems at all.

My friend and I have a world we started maybe a month or so ago, it's not very large yet but we do have a few villages. We experienced some lag during 1.17, including the boat disappearing trick but nothing compared to what's happening now. My buddy is our host and he owns an Xbox One X, with a wired connection, his internet speeds haven't changed since the update and I have an Xbox Series X and my signal strength is 100% with no change in internet speeds either.
The lag makes the game absolutely unplayable. I've been revamping a plains village while he's been working on securing the next one. We've been experiencing pretty much exactly what everyone else has described. Chests not opening, blocks not placing, swimming through the ground, suffocating when we aren't under anything, drowning when we are above water. Two days ago I got stuck on my donkey taking dirt over to the village he was working on, I moved forwards and lagged back twenty blocks, and then got stuck in this wild time loop of lagging forwards and back while poor donkey flickered in and out of existence underneath me until I left the server and rejoined.
I started a new game in single player and the results are exactly the same, I couldn't even build a dirt shack or kill any mobs as eating became another timeloop of the apple reappearing in my inventory and my hunger flickering back and forth like a strobe light at a rave.
I'd attach clips of what we experienced but they are too large to upload to here, and from the other ones I've seen in this thread so far they are pretty much exactly the same as everyone else's.
Is there any way to roll our update back to 1.17 until this is fixed? We just want to chill out and play the game, at the moment the stress levels playing this are nearing Battlefield V levels.

My issue belongs in this, but exactly matches MCPE - 149247.
after updating, I'm experiencing extreme lag of the mechanics even with the lowest settings - can't open chests, doors, buttons don't work, minecarts are not working and disappearing when I try to break them. One skeleton was shooting at me and I couldn't even touch him with my sword, the mouse buttons are just not working and when I got behind him he was still shooting at me and I was taking damage and I was shot at by animation but I was literally behind him. I couldn't open my iron doors with buttons at all and I couldn't sleep in the bed. When I tried to mine I mine one block and it's not broken, not in my inventory. If I wait like 5 minutes the animation finally broke it. If I try to place whatever block in its place before the 5 minutes are up it's just placing it back... It is really frustrating, especially with the new update where I wanted to explore the caves under my existing world. The only thing that is not affected by the lag is walking/running speed and jumping.

Can I second Sheridan's request for a rollback?? And I echo the sentiment of just wanting to minecraft and chill. (Sheridan, you got me rolling with that last sentence!)
And is there anything we console Bedrock players can do to help aside from overwhelming you all with reports like these?

thank god its not just me - ive been lamenting the loss of my unfinished mega build but if this is a bug hopefully it'll get fixed for all of us.
after 1.18 my world (xbox one, single player) is technically playable... providing i'm nowhere near my base. if im near my base the lag escalates the closer i get to such a degree that its literally unplayable. cant dig, cant build, cant fight, cant fly, suffocating while in air, drowning while not in water. my character will rapidly jerk between standing, crouching, and swimming. the character marker on the map moves about 30 seconds after i do - i ran from some zombies and while nowhere near them they were still attacking and damaging me, but they were standing where my map marker was currently at, which is where i was 30 seconds earlier.

Same problem on an Xbox One. Single player isn't terrible, but as soon as a second player joins it's unplayable

I am experiencing this severe lag in my Realm on my Xbox One S ever since 1.18. It is happening a majority of the time I join the Realm on Xbox One S, no matter if anyone else is on or not. The Realm seems stable for the first several minutes but then the issues begin. Character will exit water and be swimming on the land. Unable to fly. Mining is greatly delayed, and sometimes the blocks don't even break. Chunks are not loading. Etc. (I have several video clips of the different issues listed here)
I have tried changing settings to bare minimum on my Xbox (minimum render distance, disabled fancy graphics, disable cloud rendering) but the issues persist.
When I am playing on my windows 10 PC in the Realm and no one else is on I do not have any issues. But if I join the Realm on my Xbox One S using another account, I start having lag issues on my PC as well. The lag is making the game unplayable for the Xbox One S. It's a shame because we use this Realm to play with my stepson who is stationed in South Korea.

The CPUs on both the BDS computer and the client computer is showing low usage and no spikes (fluctuating around 4-8% after initial connection which causes a short spike).
Our world has started showing some lag on single player now, not just when multiple players are present.

I’m on PS4 and the lag is serious. Everything stated here. It’s unplayable right now. Please fix this ASAP!

A little additional info... if the devs pull the world download I posted earlier, it seems I can return to normal play without lag if I leave the area around -250, -1120. if I get far enough away to unload the chunks, at least in testing today, the lag goes away after a few moments.
This area is a base built atop an ocean monument. It is not a "mega base" or anything. But it APPEARS something within these chunks is responsible for the huge lag. Perhaps we can find something in common that people with laggy worlds have in their world?
This area does encompass an ocean monument, several trident killers all turned off, a decent number of chests. A bunch of item frames with named items in them; these were removed with no noticeable change in lag. A "cheat-y experience furnaced" (locked to allow retrieval of XP) which has since been removed with no effect. Nothing else out of the ordinary that I can think of.

SEEMINGLY SOLVED! As far as I can tell, the world is completely back to normal in terms of performance and lag... it hasn't been too long (maybe half an hour) but thus far it has not returned.
I had a wall of 33 chests each with an item frame on it housing a named (via anvil) enchanted book. After I removed all of the books from the frame and removed the frames from the chests, the lag completely disappeared. There is a storage area 10 blocks away with an additional 34 item frames (items in them NOT named) that I did NOT remove. The wall of frames/books was enough it seems. Before the chests I also removed 2 item frames each with a clock.
With the lag, it took approximately 75 minutes to remove those 33 books and frames. Therefore, this was the longest single stretch of time I was in the laggy part of the world as well. So it COULD have been a coincidence, but I will say that as I neared the end of the 33 that it was noticeably better. Still lagging, but not "pop several books off and wait 5 minutes for them to actually remove". The last row removed ALMOST in real time. By the time all were removed I believe game mechanics (chests/doors/trap doors/etc.) had returned to normal.
Perhaps if you guys have a similar setup you could use commands to remove all the item frames in the area and see if that makes a difference? Fingers crossed this is fixed (for my world)!
EDIT/FOLLOW UP:
The fix worked great for multiple hours; trident killers were turned back on for the guardian farm and after some AFK, it was unusably laggy this time. Since I knew a change from the successful hours was the farm, I (slowly) made it to turn off the farm and collect experience which was built up. This restored it again. So perhaps there is not one cause of this... and this farm in the exact same AFK spot never caused this issue before (hung experience would just eventually despawn I suppose).

@Adam Ashe i am on ps4 and the area of my base has a bamboo farm (which i dont think is relevant but maybe all the bamboo growing could cause lag ) and a sugar cane farm , around 16 bee nests and like 40 sheep . i do have item farames with but they are not named.
i will start to experiment with killing the sheep (r.i.p) then with the bees(offcourse in a backup) and see what happens

This might be similar, and it is absolutely ridiculous that the update was published in this state: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-ScZLNz-Yg
This happened for THREE FULL MINUTES

Because of the lag, my elytra randomly kept turning off in the overworld and the Nether, causing me to fall in the lava and dying even after I got out it with seemingly decent health. I lost part of my gear for sure, but I can't go back safely because of the lag to retrieve my stuff. Thankfully, because it's outside the simulation distance it shouldn't despawn, but I'll wait until I'm sure this is fixed before I lose any more gear. Flying is impossible with the lag as well it seems

In addition to earlier observations on my XBOX One (1.5 GB) world. The world is single player only, played offline. The issues appears to be impacted by the presence of large numbers of MOBs such as in protected village/town environments. Memory indicates there is no lack of storage available.
Away from MOBS the impact is almost unnoticeable whereas in crowded areas the game is unplayable. In crowded areas the client will carry out an action such as opening a gate but the server side will then reset the gate immediately to the closed position. Removing a block of anything will frequently result in the block being replaced as if no action had been undertaken. Waiting for a long (30 secs to 1 minute) period seems to allow the server side to catch up and will then allow the action to complete as demanded by the client. Away from crowded areas there is little impact.

Lots of other issues other than lag, but since my bug report was noted as just lag here is the error message given after PS4 crashes: CE - 34878 - 0

I've been attempting to work on my world again today. As some background info, this world was started just a week before the update, with not too much done - just a couple of simple stone houses, a simple farm (wheat, potatoes, carrots...), and mainly gathering resources on survival/peaceful. A couple of days before the update, I copied the world to switch the copy to creative mode to make a couple of Lv. 4 maps to get a general idea of the seed's landscape without needlessly loading in chunks in the main world (as save space has historically been an issue for Minecraft on NSwitch).
It only took me an hour and a half to finish one Lv. 4 map today /s... 😞 Now on to see how things are running back on survival!

I'm experiencing this issue as well. Updated existing ~600mb single player world on a Ps4 pro, when alone in game it seems to behave normally, but once my wife joins the tick lag dives into oblivion. Opening containers, menus, using nether portals, placing or mining blocks, all massively delayed to the point of almost being locked right up. If you can get through a portal you might still hang up on the loading screen indefinitely. No noticeable FPS lag, just pure brutal tick lag. I destroyed most of the hopper systems and mechanics in the base on a backup save to no avail, same world destroying lag when wife joins. I've tested this on minimum simulation and render distances, disabled all fancy graphics settings, and still had no success. New worlds seem to perform normally with two players, but these new worlds haven't been built up either.
Just wanted to confirm this, must be some kind of bug.

Just downloaded the version 2.35 update on PS4 and still game breaking lag. This is now the 4th straight day that players have been locked out of their own worlds, unable to play Minecraft because the game no longer functions. I know Mojang has people working on this by now but it's just mind boggling that they would release an update that breaks the entire game. How does that get through testing completely unnoticed?

I have quite a large base, with many redstone machines, huge crop and animal farms, many pets and villagers within a few chunks.
To test i turned off all redstone machines, killed all animals, pets and villagers.
The game now seems to be playable. I can open chests, use levers, crafting tables with no problem as well as braking and placing blocks.
I guess i could move all these out of my main base but the question is why did this work before the update?

Same lags with ps4 1.18.1 version
Just after loading it's seams ok but after a few seconds / minutes... lags are back.

I don't know how to give you a copy of my world so here is a link to OneDrive to download it. Keep in mind that I can't replicate the issue in a single-player session. We are using the Bedrock server EXE from the official Minecraft website.

I’m playing on Switch and I too am experiencing game-breaking lag and delays. Gates, doors, pressure plates, and buttons all have severe delays when activated and I can barely leave my main house.

I'm on windows, and there's also lag, but not everywhere. A door will open right away when I click on it, but the pressure plate will lag. If I pickax a block the block will disappear normally, then a little after it's gone there will be the particles flying animation, then sometimes it will drop something that takes a while to be picked up, or sometimes the block will reappear.
It's unplayable now.
Edit: It does this for me in single player, even at lowest settings

We’re only able to play 350 blocks + away from our town still, if we visit town everything lags. Our villagers and all our animals vanished, still can’t open chests, and we get stuck there. Only way to escape is save and quit at the edge of town then reenter. We’ve tested with just one of us in the game or two, either way we get stuck. With just one of us in the game, it takes a bit longer to get to the point where you’re completely stuck, but it still happens.
Is anyone fixing this issue? Is it still being looked at? There’s only so much we can do at the stronghold, we want to continue building our town…

Yes, this bug is being worked on. If you look up in the comments you will see that Mojang has been actively engaged on this report. It has an ADO number, which means Mojang has created an internal ticket for it. Beyond that we usually do not get updates from Mojang until they note a fix in a changelog.
I would not expect a quick fix on this bug, because we still do not even know what is causing it. From the comments it is not even clear to me whether it is a single issue. For example, some users report that the lag only occurs in multiplayer, others report that it occurs in singleplayer. Some report that it only happens near their base, others report that it happens exploring new chunks. I do not know if Mojang has figured out anything more definite than what users have commented here.
What most helps in getting a bug fixed is precise steps that the developers can follow to reproduce it. At this point the effects of this bug are well described, so we really don't need more lists of symptoms. What would help are world saves and if anyone can identify specific triggers, such as specific items, blocks, builds, or mobs that make the lag significantly better or worse.
I loaded Adam Ashe's world, had a second player stare at the named enchanted books in item frames, and ran the guardian farm, and I did not experience the lag described here.
There was some lag if I let the guardian farm run long enough to accumulate hundreds of xp orbs, as many as would normally lag my system. (I had set up an entity counting scoreboard to track the number of entities.) I tested to make sure XP orbs still despawn after 5 minutes, and they do. But guardian farms can produce thousands of xp orbs in 5 minutes. Adam Ashe only had 4 spawn spots set up, but that can still produce 500 xp orbs in 5 minutes. So in this case, it may be that the lag was just due to excessive accumulated xp orbs and not a new bug, as his update comment suggests.

[iPhone12 / iOS15.1.1 / MinecraftBE v1.18]
I'm having the same problem.
Before 1.18, I played multiplayer games with about 20 people, but there was almost no lag.
After the 1.18 update, even about 10 people will have a terrible lag for all players.
The destruction and installation of blocks and the loading of terrain when teleporting are very delayed.
Chat is not delayed.
There are no errors in the content log, so I don't think it's a syntax error in the command or add-on.
Also, the auto save icon is displayed every few seconds.

@GoldenHelmet it will lag out without the guardian farm on too, though... just takes much longer. It was strange that removing the books and item frames fixed it before for a while (without the farm on).
I agree with you that it is unclear if there is one bug, multiples, or all manifesting something that is in common. I can tell you that 100% for the exact same world and exact same build, no blocks different, SOMETHING is causing the lag. Looking through the comments, the vast majority of people here have not experienced it in new chunks – most are saying they have to go away from their base in their existing world. We are not experiencing it in that same world in, at least, old chunks that aren't built on. Note that in my world I have never experienced the slowdown in single player, non-BDS running. I have since experienced the lag again (post-guardian comment) with only one person on but it took a long time to manifest.
This is a very difficult one to track down, for sure. Once Amulet or another editor is updated to 1.18, I plan to try copying the blocks to a 1.18 generated world (not the full chunks via files, the blocks) to see if that still produces lag.
Is there any way at all to get a measurable (in game) quantification of lag... like a real Ticks Per Second counter?

There are third-party addons and tools that purport to. Mojang does not support them, and any results from using them cannot be considered definitive information about bugs in the game. You may use at your own risk for your own investigation.

I agree with Adam . I have no guardian farm in my world. I haven t left my base to experience this lag. I have chests with frames (maybe 20). I will try to remove them but i m not convinced with your explanation.

@GoldenHelmet the more courageous people who still playing on my server with all those lags are saying to me that they're experiencing lag when more than 3 players are in the game. I am willing to give you the address of the server and the correct port number but more in a private message. Otherwise, I will link a OneDrive link to the complete server files. We have several locations of activities. Maybe if you put a player at each position then you can replicate the bug. The main village is around 791, 67, 18 and here are all other populated areas. 943, 68, -93 , 1013, 63, 163 , 1537, 64, 386 , 534, 63, 410. Almost all bugs mentioned before by other people here have occurred in our world. If you need any more information then please ask me. I want this issue solved for everyone as the game is not playable at this point. All these lags started as soon as I updated to 1.18.

I experience similar problems on Windows 10. The well-running world under 1.17. became unplayable after an update to 1.18.0 with effects described in other posts, e.g.:
Block disappear after mining but reappear back after several seconds. Sometimes the particles from mining appear later and the block is dropped after a few 10 seconds.
It's impossible to place a torch or a bed most of the time.
The attack doesn't have any effect on mobs.
Pressure plates have a significant delay.
There are usually 2-3 other players connected via the LAN, however, even after their logout, the lag was still there. Similar lag, although shorter - up to 10 seconds- appeared from time to time for the fresh started world.
I de-activated "fancy graphics" "fancy leaves" and a similar option decreased "render distance" to 10. However, it seems the rendering itself is ok. Even during the lag, I have a constant FPS of around 50.
There was a partial solution that helped in my case:
1) reduce the simulation distance - in my case to 6 chunks.
2) I killed most of the animals in my farms (I had almost 200 animals there). My base is very close to the spawn point, if these chunks are active permanently, it maybe contributed to lag.
It seems the world is playable again. The lag appears only from time to time for several seconds. Nevertheless, it always appears for the first 10 seconds after the "night" when players wake up from beds.

Okay, I just wanted to come back here to clarify something in case my issue on NSwitch has led to unnecessary confusion.
I had stated that I was having problems in new worlds and old worlds and in exploring new areas, so let me elaborate on that a bit.
In new worlds, I was only exploring new chunks to fill in the maps. I can also say that I was only exploring new areas in existing worlds to fill in maps, (specifically level 4 maps). I did not notice anything other than chunk-loading lag and occasional freezing (required waiting a moment or two so the game could catch up) while doing so. But it did take me over an hour to finish one map, doing nothing else but flying through on creative (and the fast flying wasn't working).
The block-breaking and placing issues were experienced in existing worlds without traveling far away and in Marketplace worlds (FarmCraft and Jurassic World ones, had major problems, to name a couple specifics).
I don't recall if anyone else stated they had issues in new worlds and in areas far enough away other than myself, but I don't want to be the cause of throwing the team off the right trail.
I wanted to add that Auto-Save has been happening WAY too often, and it's during the auto-saves that map loading lags the most!
@Brandon Cyr - I hadn't noticed the auto-save problem specifically before the update, but map-making has definitely been getting slower over the past few updates, so perhaps I just never connected the auto-save issue to it. But currently, if auto-save coincides with attempting to load a new chunk, I will attempt to move my character and nothing will happen. It looks like my character is moving (changing direction, walking animation, etc) but the coordinates don't change, the world around me doesn't load at all, the map doesn't generate, so for all intents and purposes the world is frozen for a minute or two.

@hilariobeemon to follow up on the auto-saving, that has been an issue before the update where my whole world freezes and I cannot move during it. Yes, it's been more common but I always wished I could turn it off. I've died multiple times by it and have to put a timer when I'm in dangerous places like the nether so I don't freeze, but stuff like magma cubes don't freeze and can kill you. Does this happen to you where auto-save just completely freezes your game?

I can provide a link to my Google Drive with a copy of my XBox One world if you wish. How should I send it?
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-vgnU9Ex8c84prkziW7vMv5G39JTQavD?usp=sharing
I cannot guarantee that all the .ldb s have copied over. It was challenging to copy over the files using FileDownload FTP server and the Expansion for Explorer apps on the XBox. The latest seems about the right size.

I tested my PS4 single player world again today. My main building area full of villagers and redstone and other mobs is in the spawn chunks. In that area the game is unplayable. I was able to get hundreds of blocks away from there to a branch mine and there was a huge leap in game quality. It's not totally lag free but close to playable, compared to in the spawn chunks which I went back to and the game didn't even register that my character was in them as I couldn't place or mine blocks and none of the mobs loaded.
There's got to be something connected to the spawn chunks being too full of stuff to load to generate the world properly.

so today i eliminated all most entities and particle-emitting blocks and the lag was significantly less , kill your pets , burn your cattle , murder your villagers , blow up your bees , and for gods sake , destroy the item frames .
if you have placed some spore blossoms just take them down .
this is the price of less lag!

Yes, my world has experienced this issue as well. When I try to move or do anything, my character will respond, but the inputs are super glitchy and delayed. Interacting is bugged, I cant crouch, run, or place blocks correctly, and buttons and stuff will not function.

I’ve noticed mine has been much better after killing most of my farm, I had a lot of cows sheep pigs and chickens so I left two of each and the lag stopped quite a bit

One observation to contribute that I haven't noticed elsewhere. On PS4 Pro. I've got a normal long-term world, lots of animals, entities, redstone, etc. Upgraded to 1.18 and now running latest (2.35 iirc). I have not taken any actions (like those mentioned previously here) to reduce lag and I have all the symptoms everyone has listed. Here's what I've noticed under several situations. When I pound the crouch button a few times, the player reacts/crouches normally but then after I stop pressing anything, he'll kind of vibrate up and down very briefly then it seems the lag will clear. One situation where this seems most consistent is when I get into the mode where attacking isn't doing anything - like swinging at mobs that aren't really there. I'll hit the crouch button a few times and more often than not, the issue clears itself and the next attack actually hits. The other scenarios where I've seen the crouch trick help some (but not as consistently as with the ghost mobs) is: waiting on a block I've broken to either actually break or magically reappear and waiting on a button or pressure place to actually respond to my input.

I have a world that has cheats enabled. I have been messing around with some commands recently to see if anything might help with the lag issues. It seems when we are getting major lag in our world, if I use the "/kill @e[type=item]" command it will usually clear up the lag temporarily (not always tho). I use a few ticking areas for auto farms (kelp farm, sugar cane farm, bamboo farm) but nothing that should cause such bad lag from floating items.
I'm not sure if maybe there are other floating items somewhere in our world causing excess lag? Maybe the new mob spawn mechanics are spawning mobs where they die and drop items creating an abundance of floating items below the surface that we cannot see? Just trying to brainstorm and provide some possibly useful information. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Obviously all of us here love playing the game, we just want to be able to play without crippling lag making the game unenjoyable.

In addition to what every one else has conveyed, this problem also seems to stop and despawn all hopper carts

After the latest update, my game play was much better, with much less lag...at first. After exploring deep under an active village, eventually the game lag increased dramatically. It took several tries to place torches. Then I suddenly started taking damage from no obvious source. Running didn't help and I died. It was playable at first, but there seem to be some problems yet.

I first experience it on my 1.17 single player world, but then it was only in the nether. Came 1.18 it affected both dimensions. I tried creating new world thinking it was an old world issue, but apparently new world too started to lag. tried to break blocks but no breaking particle but soon it catch up and break. Doors, animals, piston, fence gate started to lag and desync and froze. Flying was unable with an elytra. I noticed the player also lags behind. monster also atacking/tracking me where i have walk before. If it's pending tick buildup then i tried exiting and reloading the world but non avail,it still lags behind.

It basicaly became unplayable for my low spec PC
1.17.40 was working very good, perectly I would say. And 1.18 is like stable 40fps

This may be lag but the player crouches uncontrollably and picks up items and interacts with mobs from the place of death if the player dies

i mean if it doesnt get fixed at least get us to downgrade to 1.17 the game is actually playable there, is there any way to do that on console? it has been 9 days and the issue doesnt seem any close to being resolved

My issue is a single player world with this problem and all the others. There must be a massive hotfix coming

Hot fix 2 has not fixed the issues! This is still not resolved. Mojang pleaaase (cry face)

I saw this coming. Didn't have an issue yesterday though after release.

After the Update for bugfixes (bedrock) now i got the same problem, i cannot even mine 1 block or place 1 block, after waiting 1 or 2 minutes there is a chance that the block breaks but it does not go in my inventory, thats super annoying.

If you are still having the same lag after the 1.18.2 Hotfix and have ruled out the other issues mentioned in the description panel, it would help to get information about your device and a copy of an affected world.

Thank you so much for fixing this issue! My two year survival world on my Xbox One is finally playable again! I was worried that it wasn’t possible to fix. I wonder if the people who are still having these problems are using different devices. I hope everyone else can get everything worked out!

I had a specific scenario described in MCPE-150143 that I sought to test last night. Multiplayer, split screen on PS4 and two Android players connected via local Wi-Fi. All players except one PS4 player were in chunks previously generated in 1.17. PS4 player was exploring new chunks while flying. Starting a raid in a newly generated village would lag the game as described above. Mobs were not where they were visually, blocks couldn't be broken, arrows would not fire where intended and flying was impossible.
During my test last night, I found a new outpost and village. Got BO and started the raid. Mobs seemed sluggish but playable. Had the two android players join and did not experience the same lag as in this report. The game is still sluggish (FPS) but mobs were where they were shown and could be shot. Players could fly (albeit had to be careful when going into unloaded chunks as chunk loading time was VERY slow).
The world is again playable...though much slower than in 1.17. The other issues still experiencing could be covered by the issues pinned in the description.

Thanks for the update. I think your issues are covered by MCPE-120971. That ticket also includes sound delay and block lag so the difference with this ticket is largely the quality/intensity of that kind of lag and where it occurs. You might try lowering the simulation distance on the world. With the increase world height in 1.18 there are more blocks to tick and more places for mobs to hide in caves in every chunk.

Hi there, well done on the fix. It has fixed most of the problem and I am hoping that better reliability, lag and block interactions are still part of further updates. While it is better than it was, I would not call it 100% resolved, more like 90%. I still have significant lag with interactions with chests, crafting tables and mining/placing blocks. I note the reason mainly specified was large volumes of mobs - while it is true that I am at my base which has a mob farm, this is currently happening while the mob farm is not activated (it is at Y200). I actually think the problem relates to a large volume of red stone devices - I have a large item sorter which I believe, in conjunction with blocks interactions with hoppers to be a significant factor. Hope this helps

Please see if MCPE-68796 or MCPE-137537 describes your issue, and if not you may create a new report.

This was reported fixed again in the 1.18.10.26 changelog: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4418784338829-Minecraft-Beta-1-18-10-26-Xbox-Windows-Android-
I think the fix was not in the .10 betas before this, based on MCPE-147632.

There is still block lag in the new update

Bug still present in 1.18.30 .

Reports like this for issues that were fixed in a release version will not be reopened. Please create a new report if you experience a similar issue that is not covered by one of the open reports listed in the description panel.
