Bought the overpowered tradingsexpansion for my son, but it says update. But pressing that does not work. Other stuff bought from the marketplace works. How can we fix this?

There are screenshots for this issue on MCPE-158046.
Closing as Fixed because ADO 824742 was closed as Fixed in 1.17. If there is any remaining issue here, it would appear to duplicate MCPE-153599, which should be closed within the next 5 days (unless something surprising happens).
Could you attach screenshot from the Marketplace or add full name of mentioned DLC?
