It looks like there may have been some intentional changes in v1.19.40 to the mechanics for crafting or smelting multiple items, but there do seem to be some regressions in there. For example, it may be intentional (albeit extremely undesirable) that tapping the output stack in the furnace, instead of selecting/deselecting the stack (setting up for a possible tap on a destination inventory slot), just immediately spools out items to the next available inventory slot. Sure, I hate this change, but by itself it's not a defect. But there seems to be collateral damage to other crafting mechanics:
Twice in a row now when taking a stack of wood and trying to craft a small number of planks, a couple of taps actually gave me an entire stack of planks, which is only expected if I tap and hold.
Steps to reproduce:
Place a full stack of wood on the crafting grid (in my case oak).
Tap the output slot three to four times in rapid succession.
Expected outcome:
12 to 16 planks should be added to the inventory
Actual outcome:
On or around the third tap, an entire stack of 64 planks is added to the inventory.
My request: Please restore the expected crafting mechanics where a tap always crafts once and crafting a stack requires tap-and-hold.

I would also like to add that while in a furnace if I have been selecting the smelted items, if I then go to add fuel to the furnace it won't work.
I have to leave the furnace and then go back in, in order to select the fuel and move it into the furnace.
I commented this on another reported issue with this update as well. Touch and hold will still have the desired effect of a whole stack of items when crafting, but I've accidently gone through a few stacks of blocks because I tap in rapid succession when I am counting out how many I need and I just wind up using the entire stack after the interface registers a double tap. Its annoying when I need the materials and have to go get more because I got robbed by a crafting table.
On the other hand, I won't have to craft trap doors or walls for a while... Please revert this, it's really becoming an issue. It was fine the way it was.
I can confirm Nicola's observation about furnace interaction. Once I have interacted with the output, the smelted items, I cannot interact with the input stack or fuel. It is not possible to add or remove fuel or add or remove input items. The workaround is to close the furnace interface and reopen it.
I maintain that the previous crafting and smelting mechanics were not broken, and should be restored.
Yes.. the conversion of ALL resources when tapping twice is not a good UI.. often we just want two or three of something but end up making 100s!
Either give us simple + / - buttons to choose how many we want or revert to tap once to get one - keeps it nice and simple.
I really hate the update. Sometimes I only want to craft a few things, but if I touch the screen twice, I usually get 64s. In my opinions, I just need a button like "crafting with one click"(Some resource packs have already added this button, such as "红石大杂烩"). However, the storage space of my device is not enough to support me to install too many resource packs, so I hope this function can be added to the original game.
Here is the introduction of "红石大杂烩": https://www.bilibili.com/read/mobile?id=18802645.
Tips: This Bilibili video is made in Chinese. Maybe you need a translation software to watch it.
The issue is sort of fixed in 1.19.60. However, instead of being back as it was prior to 1.19.40, you can only craft slowly/ again after a certain time. It prevents that the whole stack gets crafted.
Despite this, this is not a welcomed change to me either, other platforms do not have these restrictions of crafting slowly.
Mojang should keep all the changes of inventory management for touch controls in their betas and previews. They are very flawed and not well thought through at all.
I agree with FiromLP. I REALLY think it needs to just be reverted to what it was prior to the update. There was nothing wrong with it.
It does not register double taps as whole stacks anymore, which is good, however crafting one item at a time is incredibly slow now, as it will not register your taps if you go too fast for it....which is not that fast. The prior mechanic allowed you to tap as fast you wanted while only returning one item per tap. Touch and hold returning half stack to a stack (i really haven't watched closely enough, i think it was half stack) incrimates is fine though. That's what it needs to be.
Pressing and holding for a moment now results in a full stack. Which is fine I guess. BUT the furnace functionality is still broken. When I remove my finished products from the furnace, I cannot immediately refill it. I must close it out and get back in to fill it again.
And why are the mechanics of each of the crafting tools different? Crafting table different than stone cutter? The easiest one to use is the stone cutter.
I upgraded to 1.19.40 on Nintendo Switch last night in the UK. and saw this issue appear.
when selecting a recipe for an item to craft in the left side of the crafting interface.
Having that item appear in the right side crafting grid.
I used to be able to use the touch screen to touch down and hold the output item to be crafted so as to craft multiples of that item. This would then stop if I ended the touch.
In 1.19.40 it will continue to craft a whole stack, seemingly not detecting the touch up event?
