Confirmed on Windows 10 PC - If you take suffocation damage from a block over your head, underwater breathing bubbles show on the gui.

This still affects 1.0.0 and is most easily reproduced by riding a horse into a 2 high gap to suffocate the rider in an opaque block.

[media]yeah, no, this isn't fixed. Go on a singleplayer world and drop some sand on your head, the bubbles show up. Looks like somebody misinterpreted the BREATHING entity metadata flag. That flag controls the air bubbles bar. When you're suffocating inside a block, you aren't "breathing" so this flag gets set and your bubbles show up.
Reproduced on an LG G5 with 1.0.6.0 beta. The information above is a combination of stuff from IDA, custom server debugging and guesswork.
