I’m encountering a persistent bug where I cannot copy a Minecraft world converted from PS4 to PS5 due to an “out of storage space” error, despite having over 300GB free on my PS5. The world shows as 1GB in the Minecraft menu but the PS5 system storage reports Minecraft taking up 10GB total. This bloated file size bug seems to be the cause, as there are no other worlds, texture packs, add-ons, or marketplace content contributing to the extra 9GB. 1GB is also the same size as its PS4 version before conversion. The issue persists even after reconverting the world a second time from PS4 to PS5, suggesting the conversion process itself introduces this bloat. The world loads and plays fine, but copying fails every time with the same error.
Troubleshooting Attempted (All Unsuccessful):
Checked In-Game Storage: Verified that only the 1GB world exists—no resource packs, templates, or cached data. Deleted any minor cache found, but issue persisted.
Reduced World Size: Loaded the world, lowered simulation/render distance to 4 chunks, saved, and exited. Copy still failed.
Cleared PS5 Cache via Safe Mode: Booted PS5 into Safe Mode, cleared system software cache, and rebuilt database. No change—10GB bloat remained, copy failed.
Reconverted World a Second Time: Reimported the original PS4 world to PS5. Same issue: 1GB in-game, 10GB in system storage, copy failed with “out of storage space.”
Reinstalled Minecraft: Uninstalled Minecraft, reinstalled from PlayStation Store, and reimported the world. Same bloated file size bug persisted.
Created and Tested alternate world: Made a small new world on PS5, copied it successfully, but original world still wouldn’t copy.
This issue has persisted across multiple attempts, including after a second PS4-to-PS5 conversion, pointing to a bug in the conversion process or save system.
The 10GB bloated file size in PS5 storage suggests hidden data or corruption not visible in the menu, which is preventing me from copying the world.
The main reason that this is a major problem is because Sony doesn't allow saving game data on to a USB drive on the PS5. And you can't save it on the cloud without a subscription to ps+. There are literally no options for non ps+ subscribers on the PS5 to make copies of their worlds for safety except for making in game copies/duplicates.
Full PS5 backup to USB (Settings > System > Back Up and Restore) is possible but impractical for frequent use since it wipes your PS5 .
Please investigate this bloated file size bug affecting PS4-to-PS5 converted worlds. It’s preventing duplication and may indicate a broader issue with storage management in Bedrock on PS5. A patch or workaround would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It could be a corruption bug. After I contacted Mojang support they basically said there's nothing they can do for me because my world is likely corrupted.
I encoundeted a similar issue, 1.21.93 - after importing about 150 worlds (of 185) from the PS4 version to the PS5 version I now have a bloated 9GB save file, deleting worlds does not seem to free up any space and the PS5 version does not allow backups of individual worlds.
The save file (as reported by PS5) is 9GB (9.57GB to be exact)
So the PS5 version says it doesnt have any free space - “Storage is almost full. Delete data from Settings to enter a world” and “8.9GB used out of 9GB”
[media]However, the settings screen only shows 1.7. GB of worlds:
With the largest occupying only 62MB:
[media]I already cleared all the caches several times.
A similar issue but with a long-term world (instead of conversion) is reported as MCPE-223708
See also MCPE-223914 (even contains a screenshot of an empty world list with the same issue on PS5):
Either Minecraft forgets to delete data from the save file, the actual file sizes are misrepresented or the check for the “full storage” is based on the physical size of the storage file which might be a database that contains empty space after deleting worlds (so Minecraft doesn't “shrink” the file and once you reach the limit youre done).
An update I would like to add is this bloated file size bug is I am no longer just restricting me from copying the world. I am no longer able to load up the world and play on it either. I cannot create a new world either. All actions in game are completely restricted to me because Minecraft is convinced that this world is taking up 10GB of space when it is not more than 1GB. So I can't even play Minecraft anymore unless I delete my long term survival world which I would rather not do. I'm holding out hope that a bug fix can save my world.
Hi Thank you for your report!
Could you upload a copy of the world you mentioned in your ticket?
This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.
I am having the exact same issue after the resent update but didn't realize it was because of the original transfer. I've been playing just fine then all of sudden like 2 weeks ago I couldn't play or create new worlds. We can't upload either because of an error.
I bought a realm subscription to attempt to upload a copy of the world because that's the only viable way of doing it on PlayStation 5. But each time I attempted to upload it I would get an “an error occurred" message. The world is not uploading to the realm so I am not able to upload a copy but hopefully someone else in this thread with a similar issue can upload a copy.
A similar problem with an inconsistent and bloated total file size when comparing Minecraft vs my console (Xbox in this case) happened to me, except without any conversion between console editions. My files according to the console are substantially larger than what Minecraft says they are, and I cannot save on the world. Most of the instances of this kind of issue I am finding are from earlier this year to now. I wonder if this is a world corruption bug on bedrock across consoles.
