Non-Marketplace Resource packs and Behavior packs were not migrated to the new directory location

So when Microsoft decided that even though Minecraft already had a launcher, Minecraft needed to be ran by their Xbox console, every single file except skins and non marketplace resource pack and behavior packs were moved over to the new directory location.

If you opened up Minecraft and found that all of your behavior and resource packs that you had downloaded are gone, except for your add-ons and Marketplace skin packs, this is the reason why.

Fortunately, all of your packs still exist, however they are stuck in the old Com.mojang directory folder instead of the new Minecraft data folder. Unfortunately, trying to move them into the new directory location manually won't work, as for some reason the packs aren't read correctly.

Also, crucial Vanilla Minecraft Resources are now stored in these folders now, which means that if these are accidentally removed (which I did while moving the resource packs and behavior packs) the whole game will crash. These used to be stored in the main game files. No idea why they were moved.

There are no steps to reproduce this bug since it is not really specific and affects (probably) all PC Bedrock players.

Intended results should be that the Resource packs & Behavior packs not from the marketplace should be moved over, and function properly in the new location. Crucial game files should also probably not be stored in these files as well.

FIX FOUND! STEPS TO MOVE:

  1. Go to the original directory for your Resource pack folder, or open Run. Then, copy this into the text box:

    %localappdata%\\Packages\\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\\LocalState\\games\\com.mojang\\resource_packs

This will bring you to your resource pack folder.

  2. Select all of your resource pack folders, and hit the copy button or CTRL+C.

  3. Then, Follow this File directory order (This is such a recent fix I don’t know how to put it into run lol:

  • Local Disk

  • Users

  • [Folder with your username]

  • AppData (Hidden, allow hidden items to be seen in order to view this under view options)

  • Roaming

  • Minecraft Bedrock

  • Users

  • Shared

  • games

  • com.mojang

  • resource_packs

4. After you’ve entered, hit Paste or CTRL+V. Congratulations, you’ve moved your resource packs!

Copy all of these steps, but replace the resource_packs with behavior_packs to move those.

DO NOT MARK THIS AS A DUPLICATE! This talks about more than the first bug report with a similar issue!

The same happens to me 😞 mojang broke everything!!!!

Es imposible jugar ahora 🫩

I was wondering what had happened, even trying to re-download the packs provide no notification in game.

same problem for me

and if i try to upload a .mcpack file, nothing happens

The issue here twofold: (a) the 1.21.120 version loads packs and skins from a different folder than it loads other player content, and (b) the migration copied packs, skins, and templates to the same folder as worlds.

This is the folder the game checks for packs and skins

%AppData%\Roaming\Minecraft Bedrock\Users\Shared\games\com.mojang

This is the folder the game checks for worlds, and where it migrated all previous com.mojang content:

%AppData%\Roaming\Minecraft Bedrock\Users\[numeric string]\games\com.mojang

I am not sure which of these should be considered the actual bug. It does not make any sense to me why the GDK version creates multiple com.mojang folders under the same Windows user %AppData% folder.

The issue is not twofold.

Content in the Shared folder is visible to all users, while content in the numeric folders is specific to each individual account. For instance, if you sign in with a different Microsoft account, your packs and skins will still appear, but your worlds will not (as they’re stored in the numeric folder).

Packs and skins were never migrated to the numeric folders. As clearly stated in the report, they remain in the old directory — and I have verified this myself.

The scheme of having separate numeric and shared folders should be considered the bug here, because (1) it has negative impact on user experience by making worlds inaccessible unless you sign in with the account that created the world, (2) it is inconsistent to apply the sign-in restriction to worlds but not skins and packs, (3) there has been no announcement or changelog statement about this change, and (4) previous versions of the game did not behave this way. Indeed, the game will read world files from \shared\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds\ if you put them there. So the bug really is just that the numeric folders exist and get used by the game at all. If you want to sequester content to a specific user login, Windows user accounts already provide that functionality.

My development bp/rp/skin, skin packs, custom skins, world templates, and screenshots folders all got copied in the migration, to the numeric folder where the game does not read them.
