Short description of the issue
Custom uploaded skins and certain Marketplace skins (without 3D cosmetics) reset to a default skin upon joining a server. This issue has been persistent since version v26. Despite a clean reinstallation, the character model consistently reverts to a default skin in multiplayer environments.
Steps to reproduce the issue
Upload a custom skin from the local PC or select a Marketplace skin without restricted cosmetics.
Verify the skin is correctly displayed in the Main Menu/Dressing Room.
Join any multiplayer server.
Observe the skin change to a default character in-game.
Return to the Main Menu and observe the character preview.
Expected result
The chosen custom or Marketplace skin should remain active and visible to both the player and others while on the server and upon returning to the menu.
Actual result
The skin resets to a default skin (e.g., Steve or Alex) as soon as the server connection is established. After leaving the server, the Main Menu also shows a default skin, even though the Dressing Room still considers the custom skin "equipped."
Additional Notes
This issue has been occurring consistently since version v26.
Troubleshooting already performed: I have completely uninstalled Minecraft and manually deleted all associated folders in %TEMP% and %APPDATA% to ensure no corrupted cache remains.
The issue persists regardless of the server joined.

Additional Notes
I disabled only allow trusted skins
This minecraft client got installed yesterday and all i did was adding development ressourcepacks, custom servers and the 3 skins you can see in the video.
I know another friend that also has the same issue
I am also dealing with weird graphical issues with Minecraft since v26 which disappeared after doing a clean reinstallation of Minecraft
ive also encountered the same issue on the hive and so have multiple other people. and other people have appeared as skins from my pack despite that not being their actual skin.
I deliberately did not mention 3D skins because they are often blocked by servers. Therefore, it would not be 100% proof that it is really due to Minecraft.
Thank you for your report!
After consideration, the issue is being closed as Working as Intended.
Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.

It is definetly not working as intended. When joining my own server it also resets my Skin even though i am literally doing nothing with skins serverside…
its not “Working as intended” at all. players shouldn’t be appearing as steve or alex in featured servers they should appear as normal skins
