Based on what I have seen, this is related to many other bug reports, covering broken models or textures (like tropical fish being happy ghasts, or incorrect spear animations, or messed up player model). It seems to be an issue where the animation/model system doesn’t load properly (likely the updated one used for add ons as well, as Mojang seems to be gradually switching to updating and using the add on system, which has caused other bug reports as well), which at least in my case seems to be reproachable by exiting then reentering a world. Those misaligned shulkers will also gradually separate their shells if they are hit (snow golems are a good way to show this).
Yes, form my testing they assume the texture of an entity that is rendered by the camera (even if in a cave), and could assume many passive mobs, baby drowned, and happy ghasts, and more may be affected.
<Pink llama bug reports, which have been incorrectly linked as duplicates of MCPE-167489 , although I am pretty sure this is a seperate issue>
I am pretty sure that all of the above bug reports are all the same bug, as when one triggers, all trigger. From my experience, this can occur reasonably consistently by exiting then entering a world very quickly. My guess is that all of these cases are of the newer (data/add-on driven) animation system failing to load properly. Based on many of the recent bug reports, Mojang has been gradually transitioning vanilla blocks, items, and mobs to use the new add-on systems, which has resulted in other bugs as well (like spears retaining enchants when combined through crafting, not an anvil). So, my guess is that all of these cases are of the newer animation system, and likely more and more cases will occur as Mojang transitions more animations to the new system.
