Wheat causing lag in update 1.2.3

Since the official roll out of 1.2.3, I have been experiencing extreme lag in my base and village.

After process of elimination, wheat is causing the issue. If I try to harvest it, lag triggers. If I grab some from a chest and try to feed it to cows, everything lags, and instead I eat the wheat (with sound triggered) at a very quick speed.

By lag, I mean severe drop in FPS that turns the world into slow motion. Restarts and relogs do not help.

When moving out of the immediate area with wheat lag resolves until attempting to feed a "wild" cow, then the same issue occurs, and I eat the wheat.

I have now removed all wheat sources and will not feed the cows and lag has resolved as a temporary fix. I will also be avoiding villages.

I'm having the same issue, but not only when harvesting wheat. It actually is happening most of the time, even far away from crops. I tested both in Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 PC, the issue is present in both versions. Tested in different worlds, and had the same result. It might be a problem with rendering some sort of objects.

Confirmed for Windows 10.

In testing this, I found that the problem is not with the wheat but with the animals. The lag starts when a player is holding wheat within detection range of a cow, but the cow is not able to pathfind to the player, typically because they are separated by a fence. In addition, the cow does not react by moving toward the player. The lag persists for as long as the player remains within detection range but unreachable. If the player moves a certain distance away from the fence (about 8 blocks in my tests) the lag suddenly stops (or is perhaps just noticeably reduced), but the lag resumes when the player returns within range, even if he is no longer holding wheat. But if the player instead enters the pen, everything is suddenly normal: the lag goes away, the cows crowd around, and the lag does not return when he leaves the pen, provided the player is not still holding wheat. Reloading the world also removes the lag.

The problem is not specific to cows. Sheep, pigs (using carrots), and chickens (using seeds) exhibit the same symptoms of inattention and lag. Tests of horses (using golden apples) were inconclusive.

The amount of lag seems to be proportional to the number of animals within detection range that cannot pathfind. It gives the impression that the pathfinding logic is looping individually for each affected animal, but only while the target is within the food detection range, and the loop does not exit until a path is found.

It would be helpful if the previous reporters would check whether their experiences match what I found in my testing. If not, please update this ticket to say what is different for you. It's possible that the problems I identified are actually a separate issue with some similarities.

Harvesting does not affect me on Xbox One, but the part Auldrick said about the animals in MC not being able to follow you or find a path to you properly, does affect me.

I don't agree with this part, my lag continues until I relog:

"But if the player instead enters the pen, everything is suddenly normal: the lag goes away, the cows crowd around, and the lag does not return when he leaves the pen, provided the player is not still holding wheat."

My house is based over my cows, so the harvesting and relish issues I had last night is perhaps because the wheat ended up highlighted in my hot bar and they were sensing through the floor.

I'll add a video to support my lag after removing wheat from selection, I came across a lone pig in the field who didn't seem interested in a carrot either (although accepted it). Carrots also upset lag for the sheep and cows even though they do not pathfind to it - but not to the extent of wheat.

Adding to this, I've had horrid issues with this as well, but it's only with cows when I am holding wheat and within 10 or 12 blocks of a large (20+) group of them. I just ran a test with setting up a pen for sheep, I currently have 30 sheep in there and I do not experience any lag at all.

The lag that I've experienced has been in both a single player world and a realm.

that's exactly what I'm experiencing with the cows to.

This is a big problem for me too. Whenever I try to keep 2 or more animals (cows, horses, donkeys, and mules) in a pen I get serious lag whenever I come near the pen. Sometimes it speeds back up for a couple seconds but then starts lagging again. I am experiencing this in single player worlds. It possibly happens when there are to many animals just within one area.

I've received the 1.2.5 update on both Windows versions (PC and Mobile) and the problema still persists. Hope to see a fix son.

I'm experiencing a similar problem. On my Android device, when I want to breed two cows, the game lags a lot.
