Animals are not spawning in new areas

I'm playing an existing world, but while mapping out new areas I've noticed that the areas are completely devoid of wild life. If you camp in the area for a day or two, maybe a single sheep or chicken will spawn so it's possible that spawn rates are just extremely slow.

A slow repopulation rate of an existing area makes sense once all animals in the area have been harvested, but for new unexplored areas to be completely barren of wild life doesn't make sense at all - you would expect the wild life to already occupy the area.

Attached are screen shots of a grassland field in a new area I travelled to 32 chunks or more away from an area I previously occupied. I sat in the area for 5 minutes and no animals appeared anywhere.

Note: This only started happening as of the 1.2.6.60 update, because previously when you went to new areas wildlife would spawn immediately.

Possibly related to my other ticket, MCPE-29526, since spawn rates in generally seem to have been overly adjusted downward in the last patch.

Can confirm:

New world, plains biome. Over 3 in-game days, we have seen very few animals, maybe 1 cow, 1 sheep, and 1 chicken. (We can't make beds!)

I have also observed this in several worlds, in several different biomes, on both Windows 10 and Xbox One.

I can confirm this issue as well. We have a realm that we have had for 6+ months and with 1.2.6 mob were seriously broken. VERY few mobs spawn, hostile or otherwise.

We are using Xbox, and iOS to access the realm.

Ever since a couple of updates ago, in addition to no slimes spawning in swamps any more, cows and horses have stopped spawning in my Survival Normal realm. I've searched in a 500 block radius, through a variety of biomes, including plains, around my base over the course of a few days, and have only managed to find one cow and a previously saddled horse that someone lost. And I haven't seen many pigs, either. Sheep and chickens are not plentiful, but still present.

Our Survival Hard realm still has spawning, but it is way down from what it was previously, and includes monsters way more often than animals, which spawn hardly at all in any biome.

There's an issue for sure. There was no mobs spawning around one of my bases in my survival world and I found a cave that had probably 30 or 40 mobs in it. That one cave probably had the whole mob cap for that area.

Personally I believe it has something to do with the mechanics of mobs not despawning. In the ORIGINAL version of Minecraft things would despawn naturally when you got out of the area now if you spent time in the Nether all you will see is Pigmen which are useless. You almost never see slimes anymore and all mob grinders are not working.

I am on iOS and noticed this around 1.2.7 or 1.2.8 (I installed them in quick succession). No passive mob spawns. I thought maybe that there was a pile-up just outside my ticking area (the mob donut) but I went around my base and killed all the passive mobs (difficult because of dark oak forest) and still there are no passive mob spawns in the clearing around my base. I believe that the passive mobs I killed were left over from previous versions.

It seems that Mojang tried to institute a work around for the pile-up of mobs outside the ticking distance and in the process made the game much worse. This ticket is over 2 weeks old! Arggh...

edit: I was playing around on a flat world and hostile mob spawning is messed up too. They seem to have lowered the rates and made it so they randomly despawn. Uggh... completely breaks exploration part of the game. A fix for this (rollback of the change they made) should be instituted yesterday!

It affects to 1.2.8 as well, hostiles seem to spawn by night, passive don't at any time except at very low rate at the beginning, later no more passive mobs at all.

I am having the same issue. 1 animal for every 100 blocks or more blocks away. here we are a month later and still no fix? what is the fix if any?

migrated

having the same issue here... I created about 5 or 6 worlds in Android edition and wasn't able to make a single bed because there aren't any sheeps available anywhere.

1.2.11 has the same issue, it's there again! Fix it...
