Looking through all the bugs I've posted, I’m shocked this is still open since it’s an intended feature but whatever, I’ll update it now since it is still open!
Drowned’s that aren’t holding tridents can drop tridents. It should be similar to any other mob and their assigned weapon or armour where it only drops if they are holding/wearing it. For example, a Zombie wont drop a sword unless it is holding a sword.

The wiki is not an official source, and there is no actual confirmation anywhere. Something else that shows this is a bug is that it was also present on Java edition and was subsequently fixed, because the trident is an equipment drop, so it doesn't belong in the normal loot table. Therefore this should be reopened.
This IS an intentional feature, and in fact a hidden exclusive feature on Bedrock where Drowned can drop a trident as a rare drop. I have gotten mine from a drowned with no trident too. But it might be a possible bug so I can the issue can remain open.
@EndLordMC It shouldn't affect mob grinders, since drowned only drop tridents when killed by the player. If drowned drop tridents when they die naturally, then that is another bug.
I think he’s talking about mob grinders that use player kill, since he refers to equipment drops. However, since tridents do not count as equipment drops, they still drop when killing drowned in a trident killer despite MCPE-44408.
Resolving issues that were marked as fixed in the 1.15 and 1.16 Betas, now that 1.16.0 is being released.
@Mega_Spud – I don't believe this is resolved. The logic may be there for a drowned to drop a trident only if it is equipped with one, but converted drowned now appear to have zero chance of being equipped with a trident. The chance of equipping used to be 15%.
I have reported this in MCPE-91884.
This issue can be resolved.
I have just learned from the Minecraft Wiki that Tridents are in fact supposed to be dropped even if the drowned dosen’t have one. Theirfore this is an imtened feature. (Had no idea thats how it worked. I assumed it was the same as any weapon yielding enemy.)
