My minecraft Bedrock is stored on the External hard drive, like all of my games, but what I didn't realise is that the saved worlds are all saved on the Internal hard drive, and cannot be moved from this location, I had to do a factory reset on my xbox one x not knowing that my saved games are NOT stored with the game. this deleted all of my world saves, every other saved game from all the other games i play was successfully restored by microsoft cloud backup, EXCEPT saved games over 70mb-80mb on minecraft bedrock edition on the xbox one, i lost 61 of my 81 world saves, and lost alot of work that me and my children had done. Now this has made me want to protect my saves as this flaw in bedrock is a game destroyer, so i set out to make sure that this wouldn't happen again, but then i hit the biggest and most damaging problem with Bedrock on the xbox one, YOU CANNOT transfer, move copy or save your world save games to anywhere, they are fixed to the xbox one inernal hard drive, I tried every way to move them to the external hard drive, including moving the berock game to the internal HD and back to the External HD to no effect, i even tried using my old xbox one, but this also is missing my world saves and cannot transfer saves across drives,so i can't physically protect the saved games.
I have been in talks with microsoft about this, and both them and me have come to the conclusion that this is a fault of the Minecraft bedrock engine.
Please can someone respond at Mojang as your tech support just keeps passing me on.
It has been a week now and i fear the worst for my saves as i did a hell of a lot in one of my worlds and its all gone. Im still not happy.
I have now STOPPED playing minecraft, simply because i know that nothing i do in this game is safe, what is the point? i am now also advising as many people as i can to be aware of this as this has heart broken my daughter, who at 8 is quite upset.

I'm sorry you're having such difficult and worrying problems with the game. Please bear with us as we try to understand how this might be happening.
I noticed that you included version 1.2.16.3 as an affected version. I have removed that, as 1.2.16.3 was only released for iOS. Please confirm whether you are experiencing this problem on version 1.2.13.60 (the official release) or 1.5.0.1 (the beta), or both.

Sorry not 1.2.16.3, it has effected all versions up to the current version of bedrock on xbox one. I have no idea if this effects other platforms as I only play on the xbox. a fix to allow transferring to other locations ie external HD would be a start, as this would allow me and others to atleast start playing survival again as I'm not going to risk losing everthing again, which will happen again,as there is no backup facility.

UPDATE-
my current version of minecraft is 1.2.13.60
and is the same version I'm running on both my original xbox one and my xbox one x scorpio. all my larger worlds which have disappeared and were not backed up to the cloud, have not turned up on either xbox, so cloud saves of 70-80mb or higher don't happen. Also I can still find no way of transferring my saves from inernal HD to the external HD, or having a copy on both. annoying. looks as though there is still no way of protecting your world saves In the event of moving minecraft bedrock to a new xbox or even resetting your console, as I had to do (wish I hadn't) and lastly. large world saves to the cloud do work on console edition and oddly this file size of 70-80mb not being cloud saved is similar to the transfer worlds issue when Bedrock came out as my worlds of the same size wouldn't transfer, could this be a similar problem? I will keep checking on my older xbox to see if my current worlds are being saved to the cloud but I guess I'm going to have to wait for a fix before that happens. Until then I will be suspending building in minecraft as I don't want to lose more work, six months lost is bad enough.

I'm trying to work out whether there could be a systematic problem with syncing large saved games to the cloud. There are a number of engineering details that I need to understand to test one theory I'm considering, but it also depends on whether the player has certain habits when playing. To get those possibilities out of the way, please describe how you typically use the console:
Do you make it a habit to check the sync status and wait for it to complete before turning off the console? (I'm not necessarily saying you need to, but if you did this it eliminates a lot of possible failure modes.)
Do you have the console plugged into a power strip with other devices so you can turn them all off with one switch when you're done playing, and do you in fact use this technique?
Do you ever let the console sit idle while it's powered up, for example do you leave it running while you go eat a meal?
Do you have a sense of how fast the sync process runs? I know that some people, at least, seem to have very slow communication rates with the cloud server, so that large saved games take a long time to sync.
Do any of your other games create saved games with such large sizes? (You've already said all your other saved games were successfully restored from the cloud, but this question could help me understand whether this problem happens with any large saved game or is specific to Minecraft saved games.)
Currently, it appears to me that as you've found, it isn't possible to store saved games on an external drive. I'm only guessing, but I expect that's so the sync doesn't have problems figuring out which saves to sync if you have saved games on both the internal and external drives. And that design would actually be best, as long as the sync always succeeds eventually. But that design creates a vulnerability that could cause this problem if the sync can't complete, so that's one possible explanation for what you've observed.

Hello.
In answer to your questions
1. I do wait to see if the sync takes place and have noticed that it never takes very long, and i also makes sure i give it a little time before turning off my xbox.
2. My xbox is plugged into a power strip but it like all my devices all have seperate switches so can be turned off seperately from each other. i always wait for the external HD light to stop for about a minute before switching the xbox off from the socket. this i do no matter what,as turning off during a write cycle is never a good idea with a hard drive.
3. If my console is left powered it is only for a maximum of 5 mins, otherwise i turn it off.
4. the sync process on all games loading from the cloud is generally noticeable, and with some games can last for as long as 10 mins, but Bedrock on xbox one has never taken more than about 10 seconds, unlike Console edition on xbox one which has taken about 10 mins. more on this in the next question.
5.Yes, quite a few games have created large save files (like my modded fallout 4). but one interesting fact a number of my saved worlds on Xbox one console edition, which are of a large file size, have not had trouble reloading from the cloud, but these same world saves that have been transfered over to xbox one Bedrock edition clearly have not been saved to the cloud, The way i tested this was to have both versions of minecraft (console edition and bedrock) running on my Xbox one x, and about 20 of my large very large world saves have been converted into bedrock edition and have had extensive work done to them in both versions. but on starting up my original xbox one (which i stopped using when i got the xbox one x scorpio,on day of release) all my world saves in Console edition were restored from them cloud, BUT bedrock edition had most of my world saves missing, so clearly the bedrock edition is not backing up larger saves to cloud.
I can't see why the saved games would be effected if they are stored in the same location as the games themselves, after all, ALL of my games (ALL of them) are on my External HD, I only have Netflix and my bedrock saved worlds(the ones it wants to save) on my Interal HD, and syncing saves hasn't effect any of my other 100+ games on my external HD.
I have tried saving newer larger world saves on bedrock on the xbox one x then going back over to the older original xbox one Bedrock, but the saves i had just done do not show up, even after leaving it for long lengths of time.

Thank you for the very complete information!
I have been reading everything I could find on the web about Xbox One file storage and game saves in the cloud. Apparently, the reason you can't copy saved games to the external drive is that Xbox 360 hackers used that technique to modify saved games. The Xbox Live team is very strict about ensuring gamers are on a level playing field. They insisted on that loophole being closed for Xbox One.
One thing I found in this FAQ worries me. Under "How much cloud storage do I have?" it says "...each game is provided storage. As a user's game library grows, so does their cloud storage.... This gives Xbox One users unlimited cloud storage based on their library size." But then under "Can I copy all my saves to the cloud?" it says "If you're an avid gamer, you might run out of cloud storage space. If so, free up space by deleting unwanted game saves."
That sounds like a contradiction unless you read it this way: The number of games in your library is unlimited and each one is provided storage, so there's no overall storage limit in the cloud...but each individual game has a maximum amount of storage it can use, so for any one game the number of saves has a limit in terms of cumulative storage size. Since you have dozens of saved worlds, and since as you near the maximum it's the largest worlds that will be affected first, that's a very good fit to your problem. But bear in mind, I don't know for a fact that my reading of the apparent contradiction is correct. I'll do what I can to find out, but the reality is that Mojang and Xbox Live are separate entities and I don't have any special access to XBL technical support. Give me a chance to find out, though.

All I can add is that the problem I'm having with Bedrock not saving the larger world saves to the cloud is not because of the amount of space allocated to the cloud by Microsoft, the reason I know this is that I have many many more worlds and larger ones saved to the cloud successfully on the minecraft console edition, I have lost none of them, and yet I'm down to only 21 saved small world saves to the cloud on Bedrock, clearly I'm not reaching a limit on space.
I still find it odd that it seams to only effect larger world saves in much the same way bedrock had the same problem with transferring larger world saves from console edition, its a bit of a coincidence that these files sizes are similar, and could be a failing in the bedrock code.

You're assuming that your cloud storage is all one space shared by all your games, but that's not how it's supposed to work. I learned a little while ago that each game title you play gets its own allocation of space, and they don't share space with one another. That's true for every game...except the Bedrock version of Minecraft. There's supposed to be an exception for Bedrock so this kind of problem won't happen.
But we're not sure exactly how the exception is implemented, so the Community Support manager for Bedrock is currently getting in touch with an inside contact at Xbox Support to find out. We're going to ask whether it's possible for a mix-up to occur when a player plays both Bedrock and Console Edition with the same gamertag, as I assume you do. If that doesn't get us anywhere, we'll keep looking for what's going wrong in your case until we find it.
Meanwhile, let me clarify something for you: We're pretty sure this isn't a bug in the Bedrock code, because Bedrock doesn't have any code for cloud syncing. Bedrock is responsible for what's in the save files, but it has no control over when syncing occurs and it certainly can't prevent syncing from happening. The sync process is part of the Xbox OS, and it doesn't care about what's in the save files at all, it just copies whatever is there. So it would be really hard for Bedrock to be doing something that causes this problem, no matter what bugs it has nor what it writes in the save files. Don't think that that means I'm going to close this ticket and leave you frustrated, because I'm not, at least not until I find somebody better able to help you than I am. I'm just telling you this because you keep trying to relate this problem to the problems transferring files from Console to Bedrock, which was caused by Bedrock bugs. I don't think that approach will get us anywhere.

The only reason I relate this issue to the transfer bug is the reason of files sizes, its a bit of an odd coincidence that these are very similar. but putting that aside, wouldn't storing the save world files to the same location as the game ( like other games) be the way to go, I add this because bedrock is the only game that I can see my saved games on the internal HD, which I find odd, as nothing else does this, and knowing that bedrock saves files to a different location other than the location of the game might cause issues(not saying that is the problem),but most people and games have everything neatly in one location.
I thank you for your time trying to resolve this issue, and I think that I wont be alone in having this issue, more will follow, after all how many people reset the console (as I had to) or have to use a new console, and all these people will be losing saved games, permanently,
I know Microsoft are also looking into this as I'm also talking to them about their cloud storage and the loss/non backing up of my bedrock saves

I'm experiencing something similar to this ticket combined with this: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-26064 in version 1.4.2. I only recently started playing Minecraft in the last 2 months so I think all of my experience with the game is in the Better Together edition.

IIt is very strange this issue only occurs when you try to switch saved worlds to different Xbox consoles I can play on the same console with no issues but having multiple consoles in the home there is definitely a sync problem, I don't know why their is so much finger-pointing,,, this is a Xbox issues not a Minecraft issues or vice versa , that really doesn't matter where the problem is, have someone contact these players and monitor what happens when they try switch between consoles it is truly hard to believe that no one at Xbox or Minecraft can duplicate this issue, I am very sure there are a lot more Minecraft players who have this issue they just don't know where to go to report it, nothing comes up on Google and I stumbled across this myself.
My original post is below
We have 2 Xbox one and 2 Xbox one x and are having same issue, getting message the Xbox is taking a long time to sync with cloud,, the main problem is going from Xbox one to Xbox one X, part of me wonders if this is the way to force us to pay monthly fees for realms,,,, I don't play cross-platform I just want to be able to switch between Xbox one consoles because sometimes other family members are using the console I had been playing on, I would've never switched if I knew I was going to lose that ability, so can someone please clarify if this is a bug or if this is the new reality for playing Minecraft on Xbox one

Yesterday, I saw in somebody's twitter feed (can't remember whose) that there was an Xbox update being beta tested that fixes some sync issues. I don't know that it's directly related to this ticket, but it might be the fix you're looking for anyway.

I have had the same issue since bedrock upgrade. My world's randomly disappear. They're not in 'sync old worlds' and they are the world's we have accomplished the most. We too, as a family have stopped playing.

I also have world save issues. Today, when I opened Minecraft, a world with a large file size I regularly played on was missing. It was on Beta 1.7.0.2 if that's any help. Another thing I should add is that a short time after buying the game last Christmas, I noticed that there were two worlds that I did not create. One of them had a very small file size with a thumbnail, while the other had no file size and a default thumbnail. Both had no name and had the last played date set to 12/31/1969. The one with the default thumbnail was joinable, and was basically just a new world. The other one was unjoinable.

Please could you try syncing your larger world saves now that 1.7 is released, and let me know? Patience is the key, especially when using slower connections, and you might need to open the world in 1.7 for it to trigger the upload sync.
From our tests, it might take some time for large saves to sync correctly (20+ minutes), and you might encounter the message "your other console is taking to long to sync". Just press "Try again" (not sync current data) and it should eventually upload to the cloud.
It might take another 10+ minutes to download the world from the cloud, and at some time the progress bar might freeze for a couple of seconds but the transfer should complete.
