Cannot replace seagrass (or other replaceable blocks) with coral fans

One would expect to be able to, but this is not the case. Placement functions fine if the sea grass is not in the way.

It sounds like you're trying to place the coral fan where there is already seagrass, and expecting the seagrass to break and drop or disappear. Offhand I can't think why you would expect that to happen. Is there a similar mechanic you're thinking of?

Maybe like when placing blocks on the same block as tall grass?

Because replacing it with other blocks work, so it should also work here, but it doesn't.

Confirmed on Windows 10 1.4.2.0.

Every other non-solid block I tested replaced seagrass (dropping nothing), provided it could be placed on the block below the seagrass. The coral fan was the only exception I found.

Still occurs in 1.17.30. You can replace seagrass with coral, coral block, or their dead variants, but not with coral fan or dead coral fan.

This is also a parity issue with Java.
