Survival
I have a guardian farm where guardians spawn and then eventually fall through signs and down a big hole where they die at the bottom. After the 1.4 update, guardians sometimes float in midair shortly after the start of the drop. There is no water around them, but they stay there and bob up and down.
Creative
I went to creative to test this. The same thing happens in a completely cleared out monument. This is the attached picture. In this situation it almost looks like a guardian can "try to swim" toward a nearby water block. Even if it is hanging in the air, it can try to swim so strongly that it floats.
I couldn't duplicate this in a random location, so it may be related to monuments only.

In Creative mode, I went to the space below an ocean monument where I walled off a large section of it down to the sea floor. I then /filled the space within with air. The sea floor was a little uneven, so this left me with about 15% dry ground, 80% 1-deep water sources, and 5% 2-deep water sources. There were a dozen or so guardians that had been in the removed water. Those that were over the water in the floor immediately fell into it, while the only one that was above the dry floor was left floating in the air. It was performing its swimming animation constantly, but was not able to change its position except for a very slow drift toward the wall. I nudged it over the floor water blocks, but it still didn't fall.
Next I replaced the monument floor (above me) with wall signs. There were two guardians within the monument that, eventually, fell through the signs. They became trapped in the air immediately below the signs for a while, then eventually fell into the floor water spontaneously. While they were trapped in the air, they were not able to change position.
All the guardians that wound up in floor water blocks seemed to behave normally. Those in the 2-deep water blocks seemed to be unable to leave. Presumably, their AI will only path them to water with a depth of at least their height. (The guardians in 1-deep water blocks were not completely submerged.)
Edit: After relogging, the floating guardian either despawned or had been loaded in the 1-deep water, I'm not sure which.

Demo world MCPE-33641.mcworld attached. Note that while testing the demo I discovered that elder guardians are also affected.
I couldn't reproduce the issue in the 1.5 beta, so I think this behaviour may have been fixed when MCPE-18095 was fixed also.

This is still happening in v1.5. I have uploaded a video to youtube showing what is going on since static pictures aren't helpful. [video|https://youtu.be/fbbtv9K-tjE]
It may have something to do with the tails of the guardians passing into the glass blocks.

I am experiencing this in my world, too. The guardians do seem to be getting stuck on the sides of the drop chute and are seemingly able to travel vertically at will.
I have also also observed that the guardians lose the ability to cling to the walls whenever they attempt to shoot their laser beams.
Played on an iPad.

I have the same issue. The guardians literally float in mid air indefinitely. I've changed the size of the drop shoot and tried 2x2, 4x4, 4x6, 6x6, no change. I've changed the material from glass to prismarine to blue ice, no change. I've even removed the blocks and they will float around the room. I hit them to knock them down, no change. I finally installed dispensers with lava to clean out the floaters in my drop shoot every few minutes. Spawn rates on Bedrock are awful normally, this sucks.

I’m also currently having this isssue in WIN10 ver 1.5.2 on a Realm.

This is still occuring in 1.5.3. My device is an iPad Air 1.
[media]The first guardians that drop show the expected behavior of actually falling. The one at the end shows the glitched floating behavior.
One thing I've noticed is that exiting and re-entering the world or going to the Nether and back clears this glitched behavior and the floating guardians (see picture below) fall as a group to the bottom.
[media]This is what the chute ends up looking like when I come up to figure out why I'm not getting any more.

Anyone got an update for 1.6?

It still affects 1.6.

This also affects the realm and drops spawn rates. They drop when the world reloads.

Still affects 1.7

I am also experiencing this issue, all other aquatic life is falling to its end giving me a large supply of fish, bones, and even drowned drops. Sadly the guardians that i build the farm to gather drops from just hover at the top of the drop.
Please fix soon so i can build the underwater village of my dreams.

Ran into this this evening. Very aggravating. Win10, 1.7.1
I tried putting a single bucket of lava over the top of the drop (it's currently a 4x2 column) across some fence gates and will see if that helps force the guardians down.

Working on guardian farm.
I have found using signs for lava is a big trigger for this. As they were always floating near the signs. Sometimes not hitting the lava. Also the hitbox of these guardians seems to be off.
I almost always have to air slightly off to score a hit.
Removed the signs using maga blocks to kill. Works if water is on them. Seems to take longer to cause floaters.
Having some luck placing half slabs in spots. It breaks the fall. Seems to lower floaters. But not 100%.
Also using a modified version of 1 man 1 games guardian farm. So the are dropping from air. Also guardians are spawning in lava and dry land. Not sure if that is related to this. Might be spawning in air also but can't say 100%.
Playing xbox1 bedrock on realm. Can't really download due to internet speed. So can't confirm off realm.

I discovered this problem of the guardians floating in version 1.11.0.7, from then I finished my farm on 1.11.0.9 and the problem came, it still happened more also I noticed things in what I read about reports from you ex: whenever it loads guardians map it is not only in the monument that the guardians float, but also in test world in the creative as in the plane map, only that I have discovered that the guardians that remain floating they fall if you approach so much to the point of them to see and to look at the laser on you so it all causes you to fall at once, to say is instant, you approach, they look at you and the moment they look at the laser already fall, but as everyone already knows has to be distant so that guardians spawna right , so I already knew that Guardians hate squid, what I did was to make water tubs with three squid on each side, I did not use doors, nor plates to hold the water because the squid would swim and fall into the trap too so I used slab on inside, giving a space of the other slab so that guardians see the squids, and thus making one of the mcpe's most efficient farms.

I am still having this issue of Guardians floating in air in 1.11.4 on the Xbox One. I have tried everything I can think of to lure them to fall down the tube, but they seem to be stuck in some sort of a "scared" state with their thorns out, and thus don't attack squids placed for bait. It seems as though this has been an issue for a long time.

I am having this issue as well on 1.12. The guardians fall about 4 blocks down the tube and then stop. I have seen this occur on both a single player world and on a realm. Unloading and reloading the area does cause them to fall, but the next guardians that fall down have the same issue. Fish, squid, and drowned fall through just fine.

Still happens in 1.12. When is Mojang gonna address the issue and fix it. Haven't tested in 1.13 because of all the NEW bugs I refuse to update. If Mojang would properly beta test their software before releasing than it wouldnt have the name BugRock.

This is still an issue as of 1.13 The only way to stop them floating is to kill them or go close enough that they will attack you with their laser. Though just shooting them from range with an arrow will not stop them floating unless you kill them with it.

Still an issue as of 1.13.1 They seem to get stuck at block level 56, if you build a drop tube and place a lava source suspended with a sign at this level it will kill the stuck guardians and free up the cap.

I have just witnessed this bug for myself in my testing world on Xbox one, (Version 1.13.1) and I found a way to get them to stop floating in the air, and I hope this will give an insight into how to fix it.
I saw one of them floating and built a little platform underneath it and kept increasing it by a block each time. I had to raise it about 3 blocks, but a few times the Guardian took fall damage.
Now looking at the Guardian still bobbing up and down in the air, it was looking at one fixed position at all times, I eventually got it up to the correct level for it to head to the point it was fixed in trying to get to, and the moment it touched the water it started to jump around and swim around the room.
I then removed the platform (which I had used to get it higher) and shoved it back down the hole, to which it fell normally.
So, I think it might be that the A.I. gets confused when it leaves the water, and tries to head back (which explains why it always looks in a single fixed direction) and that giving it a platform to land on, or allowing it to reach a bit of water (to potentially "reset" the A.I.'s pathfinding) fixes the issue temporarily.
Hope this helps you figure out whats up with this bug, and how to recreate some of the results

I really hope they fix this bug soon

Still in the latest Win10 version. I don't even have a drop chute, I have a 34 block drop to a 60x60 rail collector floor at Y21. After the first few guardians fall normally, the rest just hang there until killed.
Should have gone with the soul sand/nether portal design instead, I guess.

Still a bug in 1.14.1
D4saken's sugestion of lava at 56 (also where mine were haning out at) works. But if placing water above, trying to use thomas's fix, they still fly.
Also noticed that thorns effect is not active while they are flying.

how is this still a issue in 1.14.30?

Already posted a bug report on floating guardians a couple of months back, and no response yet, I think mobs are basically screwed, hence why they have ditched bedrock spawning mechanics for java's in the 1.15 update. lets hope they ditch most of bedrocks broken mechanics for java's then the game might work as intended.

Still an issue on switch and mobile. Would've been great to know before levelling an ocean monument facepalm

This bug is still in the 1.14.30 version of the bedrock edition. It is super easy to recreate. Just spawn a guardian in water a few blocks off the ground. If it is possible for guardians to fall off the water, about half the time they will just begin floating in the air. They will only fall if they begin firing their laser.

this is still an issue as 1.14 (tested today)
i have managed to recreate this in a random location using spawn eggs.
if the guardians are trying to swim towards water before they fall, they continue to float in the air

problem still present in 1.16.0.59 beta

Happening for me too. I’ve tried modding the farm several times and it always happens with flowing water. About to just take the floor water out and let them just hop around.
[media]
This is a problem in the 1.16.0.60 beta release on Android.

The strange this is that this was supposed to have been fixed in a 1.15 beta: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360039727011-Minecraft-Beta-1-15-0-51-Xbox-One-Windows-10-Android-
It even specifically referenced this bug report.

Hoping a moderator can explain - how can the fix exist in 1.15.0.51 beta but the problem persist in 1.16.0.66 beta?
Resolving issues that were marked as fixed in the 1.15 and 1.16 Betas, now that 1.16.0 is being released.

Not fixed. Still present in 1.16.0. How do we get this changed from resolved? It needs reopened

This bug is still present in 1.16. Can confirm and have photos of three of them doing it. This bug is NOT fixed

Good job mojang, marked as resolved but still isn't. Please change.

Reopened the ticket.

Still present in 1.16.1 hotfix. A small fraction of the guardians seem to fall in air, but eventually the mob cap is hit and they're all floating. If I save, quit, and reopen the world they will stop floating in air, but this means I have to do this every minute or so. If I leave the chunk and return they are also reset and fall.
Problem is worse in a realm - leaving the realm and returning does not solve the problem. Leaving the chunk despawns the floating guardians, but the new ones that spawn just do the same thing.
Does the issue still occur in the test worlds attached to this ticket, or is a different set up needed?

I couldn't figure out how the one attached world is supposed to work and I don't have the worlds with screenshots or videos, but the problem happens in this world.
[media]
@Mega_spud Yes, I just saw it in the world that is attached to this ticket.

I have also had this same issue where the guardians just hover in the air in a guardian farm

Still a problem in 1.16.2

Still exists in 1.16.100

This still exists in 1.16.201. The guardians won't fall below level 48 or 49. They just float in air as if they are swimming. I use magma blocks to kill them but they won't fall low enough to hit them. The only way to resolve is to move the magma blocks up.

I have the same issue. It is everywhere that this happens.
[media]
still exists - 1.16.221
If the guardian notices you they will swim out of the air block that they believe is water and fall. I've added "windows" in my guardian farm so they can see me and continue their fall. I've also added water source blocks above magma blocks to pull them down to their death. They still fight this, but with the windows they eventually get all the way down the kill chamber. I'd rather use a trident killer so I can increase the volume of prismarine shards by holding a looting III sword, but as of now this is the only method that channels them into a single area so they can be killed and shards collected. I'll hit them with my sword through the windows to get the looting benefit, but it's still a very slow process. Makes building with dark prismarine or sea lanterns very challenging

still exists in 1.17.2

Can confirm still in 1.17.2. this really effects the rates of guardian farms, and makes the world extra laggy

Issue is still active in 1.17.11, I can recreate issue, guardians spawned on soul sand or in a bubble column behave like this when dropped from a bubble elevator

I also have this issue in 1.17.11. In my case, the guardians are entirely glitching out of the farm before finding a place to hover. That's probably a different bug, though – likely them getting pushed through the solid blocks on the side of my bubble column because of entity cramming.

Still happening. Exactly as described above.
Minecraft Beta - 1.17.30.22 (Android)

This is happening to me too (Bedrock/Windows 10 V1.17.11).
I think this can also affect the player. I used sponges to remove all water around my guardian farm "tube" where guardians fall and die. The guardians still float at that same location. BUT I ALSO NOTICED, there are blocks near the tube where if I walk, I'll float up about half a block. It's almost as if there's invisible water there. This has happened to me at a wheat farm as well. Directly adjacent to the water (running water), I'll float up half a block for apparently no reason. It seems impossible to get rid of the issue, so I just live with it.
I think the same thing might be happening with the guardians. The guardians might be interacting with a non-existent water block, causing them to swim in mid-air.
Reply from @unknown: what you also noticed is MCPE-51142.

Added a clip of it in action from my world as well.

Sending guardians up a bubble column will cause this bug
demo: https://youtu.be/Bj9gLfcOylk?t=544

Just noticed this today. Inconvenient as i'm trying to make a Guardian farm using bubble columns. Silent Whipserer's video does add that if the Guardian you, it will lose the floating, which I'm trying to incorporate ino my build

I've also got a bubble column powered guardian farm, and even thought they go into a waterstream to send them to a kill chamber whenever they fall down to a new point in the farm or the kill chamber they float in mid air as if still in water. My farm has been broken for a long time due to this. Still an issue in 1.19.

Yeah, that this is happening to me, it iis really hurting my guardian farm because they just become god and float.
