Farmer Villagers Breaking Potatoes Not Working (UPDATE; CARROTS TOO)

UPDATE; I am not longer cooperating with the Bug tracker due to their lack of response and ability to trust and understand the information given. I will leave this post open for the hope that someone more sensible will see this post. Goodbye Bug Tracker, I truly never regained faith in you, and now you are essentially dead to me.

Recently I created a villager breeder using potatoes. Now, all crops should work, that being wheat, carrots, POTATOES, and beetroot.

After the potatoes grew, I expected the farmer villager to break the crop and replant it, except that didn't happen. Even after loading it for around 30 minutes, nothing happened.

I've been in contact with the breeder design via Twitter, and I can confirm that the breeder is built correctly and that nothing is interfering (no nearby villagers/village/doors). I had traded quite a bit with the all the villagers in the breeder to make sure my villager score and their willingness is up, and after all that I was sure as hell that my score wasn't negative.

When trading with them, I thought maybe breaking the potatoes myself would fix it, perhaps it was a chunk loading error or something, but it was this that confirmed my suspicions that this was indeed a bug.

The farmer picked up the potatoes and planted them back, and, after making sure the area was loaded while the potatoes grew, they didn't break the grown crops.

I ended up replacing the villagers (making sure to kill them with lava), and changed out the potatoes for carrots, and sure enough, after bonemealing one just to find a quick result, the new farmer broke and replanted the crop.

The villagers have not breed due to another bug, but this report is for the potatoes, not the breeding.

So, if this detailed explanation isn't enough, I don't know what is. I am almost sure that this is a bug, below I have the twitter conversation and the tutorial linked.

Thanks for any response you may provide.

UPDATE: The carrots did not work either, they broke one the first one, then they didn't break the rest unless I got them started, as to which then they only broke a few before I had to break another one. This bug needs to be fixed asap as it applies to a huge part of the game.

UPADATE: NOTHING WILL WORK THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

Editted and removed unecessary details. Could you provide a world file?

Stating that you quit the game won't help in fixing the bug. Instead please provide more details that may concern this issue. I tested it in 1.6.0.6 and it works fine so maybe its only in 1.5.x

I acted a bit irrational, which is just my history with the bug tracker, so I am not quitting I was just being over dramatic since I am easily triggered by the lack of immediate response.

A world file really couldn't be done due to the massive size of the world, it already takes several minutes to boot up.

The only details I can provide is that I replaced the crop used and the villagers used (making sure to use lava to kill them), and they never broke the crops on their own. I'm really not sure what can wrong, but this is a bug. (yes the crops were fully grown)

Also, I created it on the most recent version,  I don't know the exact name of it. So that update number I put in may be incorrect.

Please put the correct version. Villagers may not breed when a villager dies near a player. There is a delay and sometimes they won't breed at all. Does it still happen when you create the breeder in a new world?

As a side note, if you are aware of your behavior in the bug tracker then please do not overreact and think the situation through. Conduct further tests and check the setup you made if you missed anything. Some updates or other bugs may have caused the mob's behavior to change.

For anyone still watching this, there are many reasons a farmer villager might stop or refuse to harvest crops. Here's a list (not guaranteed to be complete) of reasons:

  • They are not in a village (see note).

  • They are in a village but the crops are too far from the village center. (I suspect this is the problem in most cases.)

  • They are in a village but are too far away from its center and are desperately trying to get back to it.

  • They have no room in their inventory for the crop.

  • They have already filled their quota for that type of crop.

  • The Mob Griefing game rule is disabled.

  • It is night. (Farmers don't work at night.)

  • It is raining/snowing/thundering.

  • They are frightened by a nearby zombie, possibly one hidden in a cave.

  • They cannot, or don't, get close enough to the crops. (I'm not sure how far they can sense them, but certainly within 16 blocks.)
There are other reasons, such as being busy trading with a player or being in a panic after they were attacked, but those wouldn't apply here.

Note: By "in a village", I mean that there is a village that they consider home, not that they are within the village boundaries. A villager can remember where his home is for a long time after you take him away from it, although they can forget under certain circumstances. One of those is reloading the world.

Please see MCPE-44268 and MCPE- 47166 . At last a fault has been admitted.

New farming rules, not implemented properly as yet, does seem to mean that potato farmers will not farm or feed hungry villagers. Beetroot works well, wheat/bread doesn't work and carrot farmers will feed a measly amount to a hungry villager.

Awaiting a fix and hoping this isn't the end to automatic farms.
