Confirmed on Xbox One. It will not detect the shape of pumpkin/melon stem when placed by player or produced naturally.

Observer stops working when logging out more than 5 chunks away

Only works when it is moved using piston or replaced(break and put)

Observer already detect changes of the stages of growth of Melon and Pumpkins but won't detect when the new block of fruit is put in place. Shouldn't this be added as a last stage of growth?

According to the Minecraft Wiki, observers detect block state changes on Java and block updates on Bedrock. The cause of this bug is that pumpkin and melon stems do not create block updates when they change state; only the pumpkin/melon itself does.

This is actually intended, like Blobs said, observers in bedrock detect block updates, not state changes.

Still exists in 1.14.1. Also if that is true which it makes sense, then that means it’s a parity issue and thusly is still classed as a bug that needs repairing. Optionally if the devs do not want to address this issue ever and leave it as a intended bug then they can postpone the issue here like they have done for a few other Bedrock bugs.

So the actual bug is due to an oversight where the BUD is not designed to detect block state changes just block updates.
