I have found four shipwrecks in my exploring the terrain beyond the pre-Bedrock terrain of my world. All four have yielded treasure maps. But only one led to a hidden treasure chest. I tore up the ground at the other three locations but found nothing.
What really irritates me is that in an copy of this world, which I use to fly around in creative mode and look at things, there WAS a chest at one of the other three locations. But in my main world it is not there

I dug up the entire area. Not just one spot but the entire area for almost 20 blocks and to a depth of at least 15 blocks. One of those missing chests, in the creative copy of the world it was visible without digging, on the side of a vertical wall on the edge of the island. But in the survival main world, in the same area, newly generated terrain, I dug up that whole end of the island and there was nothing there. Every time I went looking for the chests, I ripped up so much terrain searching that I can fill two shulker boxes with the floating blocks and still fill my inventory all over again, and not find a damn thing.

The easiest way to find buried treasure is by using the command "/locate buriedtreasure." This will tell you the exact coordinates of the nearest buried treasure. You could of been a bit off when you were looking for the treasure, which happens to me a lot.
