Steps to reproduce:
Spawn any type of fish in a 1x1 hole;
Point at it and use a bucket/bucket of water;
Expected results:
The fish is collected, and can be used later in another place.
Observed results:
The fish is collected and placed immediately after.
Workaround:
Collect the fish in a way that you won't be able to reach another block after doing so.
Tested platforms:
Windows 10: Affected
Mobile (Android): Affected, in a different way (You begin to mine the block behind).

This seems to be even more noticeable in the 1.14.x betas, and affects other bucket type interactions also (lava, water, milk).

Can confirm it is happening on PS4 1.14.41

Also applies to axolotls in a bucket. Axolotls were introduced in 1.17.0.

This is an issue I'm having with Axolotls in the new 1.17 on Xbox One.

I’ve encountered this on PS4 with a bucket of axolotol. One got out of his tank and it took a good five minutes to get him back because each time I scooped him up, it just put him back down again. Of course it would also leave flowing water and all the water from the failed attempts helped keep him alive, but the room ender covered in flowing water which wasn’t fun. Should’ve been a clean and easy job but this bug made it hard. If Franklin dies, that won’t be good.

This is still happening and I’m playing the latest version on a Switch.
I’ll bucket something - fish, axolotl, plain water, lava - and it will sometimes immediately empty itself again.
I feel like this may or may not be related to how difficult it has become (in my experience) to bucket something after recent updates.

Created this issue in MCPE-139664. It is being covered here.
Upon playing 1.17.30.23 Beta, this appears to be fixed. Axolotl went in the bucket first try.

Thank you for the verification. However, this ticket will remain open until the fix reaches the regular (i.e. non-Beta) release.

How many times did you test it Quinn Fox? I haven’t dealt with the betas but in the full 1.17 releases there were a few times it’d work first try. Did you test it enough to believe it works consistently or could you have gotten lucky?

@unknown: Don't worry, the author of this ticket is a moderator here on the bug tracker. If it isn't fully fixed, he will get it done.
this is kinda a bug but when your holding down place it happens so fast that it places it back down again
