Cannot move items if Quick Move isn't canceled

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Fill your inventory with stone or another item that can be crafted into something

  2. Quick craft the stone into stone bricks or buttons using the crafting grid (do not craft directly from the recipe book, this cannot seem to be reproduced that way)

Observed Results:
Eventually, the item tooltips disappear and you are no longer able to move items in the inventory until it is closed and reopened.

Expected Results:
The tooltips should not disappear, and you should still be able to move items without having to close and reopen the inventory.

Note: See this comment for additional repro steps.

Original Description;
Occasionally, whether it be crafting an item, or attempting to move an item to another slot in my inventory, it won't let me do so. Not sure how long this bug has existed for, but I hope it gets fixed.

I've had this issue too for a while. In order to reproduce it, you have to keep crafting things and eventually, the bug will happen. Sometimes it will happen almost immediately like in the video above or a bit later. Once the bug does happen, you have to close your inventory and re-open it to move things again.

This is still an ongoing issue in the current version of Windows 10 edition (Bedrock 1.14.60). It has never been fixed. It's super obnoxious, nearly every single time I'm moving stuff in my inventory, or crafting, or trading with villagers, the interface basically stops responding and I cannot move items around at all until I exit and reopen the inventory, crafting or trading GUI, etc. This report needs some updating.

Are there any specific steps to reproduce this issue? We haven't been able to do so so far.

Could this perhaps be a hardware issue?

Mega_Spud, in a certain way, possibly. Based on my other experiences with Bedrock Edition multiplayer and some connectivity issues I have, I have to wonder if this is a symptom of how MCPE handles connection lag in general. I have been playing Java Edition multiplayer since Beta, and with Java, it seems to simply store player actions client-side until that data makes it to the server (unless it times out). However, Bedrock Edition appears to totally lock things up and freeze client-side when the connection lags, causing issues like the bug here. Honestly this is one of my largest personal issues with MCPE in general. I have a less-than-ideal internet connection that has episodes of constant, tiny, momentary dead spots and while my Java Edition experience is relatively seamless, Bedrock Edition constantly locks and freezes and it's hard to get anything done.

I found a more reliable way to reproduce this.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Place any item anywhere in your inventory.

  2. Press and hold either Left or Right Click

  3. While holding that, press and hold Shift

  4. Doing both, move your cursor off of the gui (or just off of an item slot in general, like the space surrounding the crafting result slot)

  5. Release Left/ Right Click

  6. Release Shift (you must follow this releasing order exactly)

Here, the player cannot alter any items in any inventory. You can also do this while picking up an item and you will not be able to place it anywhere.

If you encounter this, there are at least three ways to escape it while keeping the gui open

  • Hold Shift then click on any item slot

  • Hold Left/ Right Click, then drag your cursor to an item slot

  • While not hovering over an item slot, hold Shift and Left/ Right Click, then release Shift (do NOT release Left/ Right Click first)

There's also a minor issue where simply holding either Left or Right Click, then moving the cursor to an alternate item slot will not display item tooltips for said slot until the button is released and the current selection changes to another slot, or the player picks up the item and places it back.

Relates to MCPE-25778.

Not a hardware bug, also still is a bug to this day.
