Standing on top of soul fire would set any mobs including players on normal fire.
See MC-170828 for the possible idea for a correction.
Steps to Reproduce:
Place soul soil.
Light the soul soil on soul fire using a flint and steel or fire charge.
Stand in the soul fire.
Observed Results:
The player is set on normal fire.
Expected Results:
The player should be set on soul fire.

The problem here is the regular fire animation. It should be a blue fire texture in that case, instead of the normal fire animation.
Can confirm that in 1.16.0.53 too.

I don't think this is a bug. It is true to real life, where the color of a flame depends on the material that is burning, and not the color of a "parent" flame. The player does not burn in blue because the player isn't made of soul soil.
In any case, this really more of a feature request.
I tink this is intended, since the color of a flame is influenced by the object it burns and not the object it was previously on.
