It isn't just the End or Nether. My base is underground and fully lit up, but sounds are nearly constantly playing whether I'm above or within the base.

my base is fully above ground, but i guess every 5 seconds (it is a consistant interval) a random cave sound plays. even if i'm standing in broad daylight.

Affects 1.16.0.63

Having trouble changing my realm to the seed I want and getting tons of errors too

in android happend to

This bug still happens, but it doesn’t as often as it did before 1.16.21.

Can you attach a video of this bug happening in the nether and overworld? I would but it says it’s too big and I can’t compress them

extra spoopy minecraft, its apart of the halloween/spooktober update, just kidding that isn't actually a thing, but its weird that cave sounds don't just play in CAVES, CAVE sounds literally have CAVE in it, im guessing everything is a cave now? its unusual to have cave sounds playing in none-cave biomes/structures

As of 1.16.200, you can easily disable cave noises by going into settings, going into the audio menu, and setting the "Ambient/Environment" slider all the way down to 0.

its not called "cave sounds" its called ambient sounds and it could play there because its ambient sounds.

Ambient sounds include cave sounds, nether ambient sounds, and underwater sounds.
Cave sounds are supposed to play only in caves, or (dark) underground spaces.

turn it off by ambient/environment

Affects 1.17.2

I may have additional information for this bug. Using LukasPAH's Java Debug Screen addon, I've determined that the game considers blocks above the player when determining if they are underground. This doesn't apply specifically for the case in the end, but related bug reports were all resolved as duplicates. This list includes blocks that, when stood under, give the player the is_underground "tag", but should not:
water
lava
leaves
web
ice
anvil
brewing stand
beacon
In addition, there are some blocks that should place the player underground, but currently don't:
(moss) carpet
lectern
powder snow
end portal (frame)
composter
enchanting table
shulker box
pistons
stairs
daylight sensor
stonecutter
This hopefully explains why (in the overwold), walking under a tree or swimming underwater causes cave sounds to play.

Affects 1.17.40
1.18.0.22 beta

Is this normal?

Affects all 1.21.X versions.

When playing the beta myself, I noticed it seems that the cave sounds play at set or conastant intervals as well.
