Can confirm. Coral fans can't survive on waterlogged blocks (e.g. an upper slab) and it's inconsistent with normal coral and Java Edition behavior.

I can confirm that it still happens on the latest version (1.17.10). I was trying to make a chicken coop build using horn coral fans as chicken nests, but it didn't work. Unfortunately, a lot of the building videos you see online only work in Java, like placing lanterns and flower pots on trapdoors.

Steps to reproduce:
-Dig a 1x1 hole and place upper slab
-Fill it with water, creating a waterlogged slab block
-Place coral fan of any kind on top of the slab

Observed results: the coral fan dies.
Expected results: the coral fan should be able to live.

This is the build that I'm trying to make:

Another example, a coral carpet build that is impossible to do in Bedrock:

It still hapens in 1.18.10.20

Steps to reproduce:

-Dig a 1x1 hole and place upper slab

-Fill it with water, creating a waterlogged slab block

-Place coral fan of any kind on top of the slab

Observed results: dead coral fan is placed

Expected results: coral fan is placed. (Alive)

This is still happening in 1.19.10

I tried this yesterday in my survival world and my coral died.Β  I have just checked on a creative world and it only appears to affect the fan varieties.Β  1.20.40Β  Screen shot showing waterlogged slabs and the fans die the second they are placed, no delay of being alive and then dying, it is as though you are placing a dead coral straight away.

In 1.21.10 Coral fans will no longer instantly die when place in waterlog blocks

Please fix on Coral fans on waterlogged

Yup, still affects 1.21.30. I guess I'll just have to settle with the tall branchy ones for my water lilies, but it's just not the same man😭
