I know that ghasts are intended to spawn frequently on soulsand valleys but they spawn very frequenly on wastes as well, and considering wastes are bigger than other biomes, ghasts spawn a lot in a big part of the nether.

Yes, I had this issue too - as soon as I kill one ghast, I notice another - really annoying and needs to be fixed!
Ghasts have a density limit of 2. The problem here is that the 44-block spawn/despawn radius on simulation distance 4 makes them spawn closer to you and often despawn very soon after they spawn, allowing new ones to spawn closer to you gain. This might be fixable by making ghasts exempt from instant despawning, or by having them spawn a dummy "ghast" entity when they die that occupies the spot in the density cap for a period of time.
On Java edition, ghast spawns have a 95% chance to fail
That failure chance is not present on Bedrock, but they still have a similar spawn rate
