MCPE-79556

Items in water streams or on ice get caught on pressure plates

with water streams on top of ice and pressure plates at the ends of these streams, items stop at the pressure plates, even though they should not because pressure plates do not have a collision box. This is absolutely crucial and will break a lot of farms.

This is present in the latest beta (1.16.0.63) on Xbox as well.

Most likely this is due to the fix for MCPE-65487 in 1.16.0.63 beta. Pressure plates were probably given a collision box to fix that bug.

Removed 1.14.60 from Affected Version/s after testing.

Could you provide picture, video, or test world of builds that this will break?

I’m thinking that in many cases you could replace the pressure plate with tripwire. However, I think that might now slow items on ice due to MCPE-81316.

I tried to give the tripwire suggestion a go but I'm not exactly sure what you meant, both string and tripwire hooks just waterlog with adjacent sources; as does string between two hooks.

As a workaround you can use buttons on the walls of the water stream if its 1 or 2 wide, any wider than that though and you can either replace the pressure plates with buttons, step down the channel or use a block above with a button. I tested for about 10 minutes throwing different items and there doesn't seem to be any issues with items catching buttons.

Of note is that this breaks existing parity with Java Edition. Pre 1.16 BETAs both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition allowed items to travel over a pressure plate on ice. This is no longer possible. So while I can't think of any contraptions this would specifically break, it may be worth tracking as a regression caused by an unrelated fix.

I was thinking the pressure plate was to detect items flowing by, so the 2 builds pictured would be functionally equivalent in 1.14.60, but the top one breaks in 1.16.0.64 beta. (You do need a button on the side for the string version; I didn't realize string doesn't block flowing water.)

Affects 1.16.0.67

I saw a workaround for this over the weekend on a decent Bedrock YouTuber (silentwhisperer!) as he did a 1.16 update video on new farms and how old ones need to be modified. Basically to workaround this replace the pressure plates with buttons.

I did this and can confirm on 1.16.0 on Xbox One it did restore correct functionality to water streams and I once again have bamboo, guardian drops and XP all flowing freely in my farms 🙂

Can confirm buttons work in place of pressure plates when placed where the pressure plate would normally go.

I haven't tested but I heard this was fixed in the latest beta

GoldenHelmet

I can confirm this is fixed in 1.16.20.
