I got told by Mojang the feature is no longer supported (see reply below). I own the original disk and can no longer play the legacy edition even though I own it. If it is no longer supported, they should say so publicly.

Sorry about the delay. We appreciate your patience while we work through this backlog.
Unfortunately the edition button of the game has been discontinued. I'm afraid we aren't able to help with this.

(Nate Larking) Wow, that’s really unfortunate. I personally much prefer the Legacy version to Bedrock, so knowing that, if I wind up losing Editions, it’s gone forever, is really disheartening.
Its this bad, eh? It really sucks not being able to play a version that should be open to you but it's not. Hope this problem does get resolved instead of such a quick response of "being discontinued"
I think the most unfortunate part of this situation is that the version of Minecraft that a person paid for has now been taken away and replaced with a version that is quite different, and that they did not pay for. Of course, it could be argued that the Bedrock edition is simply an update to PS4 Minecraft, but it is classified as a different edition of the game by Mojang; it could be argued that the content that one purchased has now been replaced with different content.
I also have suffered from this problem because I bought the game digitally before finding out about the benefits of having the old disc. Even tho I installed the game with the disc I have the editions button doesn't appear because my digital license has permanently locked me out of it. What makes it even stupider is that I can re-enable the button by deleting the bedrock config files while offline, switch in and out of accounts and load it up with the disc inserted. Only then does the button work until i turn the wifi back on. I don't think I could get a refund on the digital version now since I bought it a few years ago which annoys me. Even when I did try back then I got nowhere with it
I'm very disappointed in Mojang for not taking accountability and refunding all PS4 Players with this problem. The fact we have to jump through hoops to access our purchased content is unlawful. Separate legacy from bedrock and the issue would be solved... But instead you ignore us for 7 years
Edit: how hard would it be to contact 4 j studios and release a legacy copy to players with this problem
It's not a permanent solution, but it could be helpful if you have the physical disc and a PS5 and this issue is holding you back from buying the digital version.
As you know, if you purchase a new digital version of the PS4, the edition button will be lost. Fortunately or unfortunately, the digital version of the PS5 can be purchased separately from the PS4. (Note that the Deluxe Edition is a set.)
In other words, in my environment, the digital version on PS5 gave me the comfort of a discless system, while the physical version on PS4 gave me the edition button by booting from the disc.
I had the same problem but my game is digital and it happened to me close to the time it happened to you. Don't worry Mojang isn't ghosting you, They told me to come here due to them still working on this issue. If you found an answer please tell me.https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-102231
