I contacted support and was asked to put the bug I found here. I am updated to the newest version 1.2.13. So when I'm on the realm and any item I hold has mending on it the item will absorb the exp but it will not gain durability. Instead all it does is bounce up and down at high speeds with it's durability bar fluctuating, someone on my realm even claims to have had their fishing pole duplicate during this bug into their inventory but I cannot confirm that. I can confirm however that this happens with fishing poles and mining picks and ONLY on realms. When I take the same world and download a copy to my PC and run the same world and go to my mob exp farm the pickax does not bounce after absorbing the exp and the durability is replenished just fine. It is HIGHLY repeatable and has become a serious problem with trying to repair items on my realm. Sorry I cannot confirm the duplication or any other items as I do not have any other items with mending besides armor (which has no issue with mending).

Was unaware there were other versions of realms besides the bedrock version, I too am bedrock version.
Can confirm here... occurs on Win10, Xbox, and Android (at least). There have been some bug reports on the bedrock side but I came over here when I also realized this was only happening on my realm. The only difference is that mending still functions for me, the tool just randomly (but frequently) starts going crazy. Sometimes it resolves itself and other times you need to switch tools to get it to stop. I can also confirm it is with the pickaxe and fishing rod.
Same happens to me. Issue seems to happen when experience flows in quickly. If it flows in slowly enough the pickaxe seems to do OK. Whether or not the experience is actually absorbed and tool mended seems hit or miss.
Unsure if it's common to have an issue go a week without so much as "we're aware of your issue and are looking for a fix" but I think I'll just host my world off my pc and forget realms, they seem broken and unfinished for options anyway.
I've seen this issue on all 3 Realms I've played on.
Also, I would like to add that it appears to only affect 'Enchanted' fishing rods (Mending or not); un-enchanted rods do not 'bounce' and lose durability.
can confirm that it affects any handheld tool with mending. if you try throwing the tool ie shovel, sword, rod, on the ground at a rapid rate it will duplicate.
I can confirm that this happens with any tool/weapon with mending. I am on realms with bedrock and play on that realm on android (v1.2.13) and xbox and experience it on both. I typically notice it when I am at my blaze spawner or skeleton spawner killing lots of mobs to gain lots of xp quickly for the purpose of repairing the tool with mending. It can happen both when xp is picked up one at a time or a pile of them. When it does happen, it appears that the xp that was picked up during the "glitching" is not applied to the tool's durability. It will stop on its own after a few seconds or can be stopped right away by changing tools but the xp that was trying to be applied still seems to be lost.
I used to have this same problem, but it appears to have been fixed. I haven't noticed it in quite some time, since the earliest aquatic update.

I have this same issue on a bedrock realm, mending pickaxe bounces and doesn't appear to repair at normal rate.
