The solution worked one time, now I'm having problems again

I just migrated my world to pre-release 4 and it seems to be working as expected for me

  • After taking items out of chest and reloading game, they no longer are duplicated

  • Items that were lost on a previous save / reload are still lost unfortunately

Seeing the same or similar behavior on the mac client, 1.17.1 world that has been updated in several snapshots and now on 1.18 pre-release. After quiting and reloading game:

  • Certain items that have been taken out of a chest will re-appear, so now I have duplicates

  • Some newly placed items and even some new chests are gone

  • This is affecting multiple different chests, but not all chests - some are behaving normally

Have experienced the same on a number of occasions - tile drops just stop showing up when you break anything, exiting and reloading the world makes tile drops work normally again but does not cause tiles that should have dropped to show up after the fact (once it's gone, it's gone).

I'm playing on a Realm, unsure whether that might be relevant.

This applies when 'experimental features' are not enabled. With experimental features enabled holding shift / crouch to sink faster works. This essentially makes doing anything in water impossible with experimental features off, including Realms where it doesn't seem possible to turn on experimental features.

I was thinking in the same way that you can get a dispenser to drop a mine cart OR place it depending on where it's aimed that the same should hold for pumpkins and mob heads. But a dropper does work.
