I have also observed this. That effect is different, but may very well have the same root cause.

Saplings drop is random, 5% chance from each block, IIRC.

There is no guarantee one tree will drop N saplings. In all my previous worlds jungle trees had positive farming ratio, even if sometimes inconsistent.

You should've brought 6 or even 10 saplings, such things happen.

Can confirm. Noticed some villagers literally blinking between employed and unemployed, didn't give it another thought at first.

Yesterday I've left three farms running in a void world - golem one with 22 librarians/beds, wheat one with 1 farmer/bed, and carrot/potato with 4 farmers/beds. Overnight, some beds were lost, and 4 farmers were able to detect them as empty and breed to, like, 20 or 30.

EDIT: This may have been an effect of MC-151225, will test again tonight.

Also this (nearby rails being updated more aggressively than before) is most probably the cause of MC-122663 (terminal ascending rails now reverting to flat) which was closed as "as intended" and commented with "you can build in a previous version and then upgrade".

Curious if this is also as intended and our previous ability to edit tracks next to previously completed tracks was a bug all along.

Here's a video where I create a world, spawn a Cartographer, buy Ocean Explorer Map and teleport to the other side of that map. Player pointer on the map stays frozen until I reload the world.

More detailed repro steps:
1. To level up Cartographer trades, you need to, in order:

  • sell Paper,

  • sell a Compass,

  • buy an Empty Map for Emeralds.

2. To buy Explorer Maps, you need Compasses along with Emeralds.

3. To update Explorer Map's player pointer or terrain, you need to do one or more of:

  • move within map's X span or Z span, this moves pointer,

  • approach the map area for less than ~100 meters, this draws terrain on the map,

  • move a significant distance within ~1000 meters around the map area, this changes the size of player pointer.

Please ask if more details are needed.

Easily reproduced this in a new world. Editing description to remove unrelated details.

FontRenderer is avn.class for 1.8.8.

Thanks, Kumasasa!
The problem for me was in the Advanced OpenGL setting (wasn't it the reason it was removed from options in the first place?). Despite the option being removed, the setting itself was preserved in the config file. Setting "advancedOpengl:false" in options.txt solved all my woes, even for large rendering distances. On to ocean monuments on Hardcore!!

+1 to jeremy branscum. I see no Advanced OpenGL in my video settings in 14w25b, can swear I had it earlier.

Snapshot 14w25a!!!
It just got real. The problem is now much worse than ever, chunks don't load almost at all beyond the initial sweep, and what's worse, they don't even load by proximity anymore.
Proof of didn't happen: http://www.twitch.tv/orcjmr/b/539657493
Win7 64, i5-2500K @3.3MHz x4, 8 GB RAM.

I do hope it gets so bad that it gets noticed, and once noticed, one of the fine folks at Mojang won't just settle with rolling back an offending change, but rewrites the thing for good.

EDIT: Oh, right, the most important spec: WD Caviar Green HDD.
I came to work and tested against an SSD - it works flawlessly. Previously I was able to eventually catch up to chunk loading front and get it to glitch - well, not anymore. Loading is smooth and orderly even on AMPLIFIED worlds. Well, I guess I'm down some $100.

14w21b, I'm joining the club.
Definitely an issue of computer performance - a PC with SSD is much less prone to this bug, but a flying or riding player still eventually outruns world loading.

As someone mentioned, a showstopper 😞
