Comments

Possible duplicate of MCPE-26168.  As noted in a comment on that issue, I am able to replicate this on 1.5.0.14 with iPad Pro running iOS 11.4.

Reproduced this issue in 1.5 2nd aquatic update on iPad.  When not connected to network, game freezes after playing for about 2 minutes consistently.  Does not unfreeze.  Does not seem to matter what you are doing.  I have tried fishing, harvesting crops and standing still with the same results.  Reproduced in both an old world and a new one since the 2nd aquatic update.

steps to reproduce

  1. Put ipad in airplane mode

  2. start Minecraft

  3. open a world

  4. start playing.

  5. 1:30 to 2:00 later the gameplay will freeze.  Music continues. Never comes back.

I am able to reproduce this on ipad as well.

I'm back to report that I have been able to reproduce this behavior in Minecraft Windows 10 Edition. Any time this happens, the world (or at least playing near that chunk) becomes unplayable. Suggest that someone look at the mob limit code. Are the limits realistic?

Further detail on this. I edited my player location while offline to get out of the lagging chunk. Upon returning to play, it seems the skeletons in the offending chunk never despawn regardless of what action I take or how far away from the chunk I travel. It seems permanently lagged.

Confirming that I have just replicated this issue on version 1.0.0 with an iPad Air 2 with iOS 10.0.2.

Stood by a skeleton spawner with water/river underneath flowing down into a kill pit (simple mob grinder). When I went down to the pit, things got increasingly more laggy until I was with the skeletons at the bottom of the pit. Everything lagged extremely, and the UI stopped painting; instead I only see sky - which gets dark and light with the day cycle. I can make my sword do the attack motion if I press and hold, but it never kills any skeletons. If I press too long, it ends up destroying a block.

It seems I can move around in a limited fashion, but can't see where I am due to the lack of screen painting. Have tried setting all the video parameters to the lowest settings and that did not help.

Regrettably I have no backup of the world (iOS doesn't make it easy) and am in survival mode with no cheats. Hoping to not have to enable cheats to get out of this situation but can't think of any workarounds.

Confirming that this bug is reproducible in 1.10.2 on Windows 10.

Some additional information here. The repainting does eventually happen. It seems that while I'm running or flying around, even if on or near the blocks that aren't painting, they don't repaint. If I stay at rest, they do eventualy paint--after 20-30 seconds of being in one place. So I might reclassify this as extremely poor repaint performance, versus never repainting. Guessing a crash report will not be as valuable, but I can still do that if desired. Could also provide other info on the machine, perfmon data or something. Let me know if that's of value.
