MC-70401 arrows shot from a boat are invisible, miss the target, and are returned to inventory Duplicate

Comments

Also if you are in shallow water and jump out of the boat after firing an arrow then the arrow will return to your inventory when you reach the bottom. Unless of course your bow has the infinity enchantment. To a player it doesn't matter if the problem is with the bow, the arrow, the boat, the water, or the target. What matters is that the primary ranged weapon in vanilla Minecraft does not function as it did in all 1.7x and eariler releases. A bug was introduced during the earliest pre-releases of 1.8 and there has been no indication that any developer has paid any attention whatsoever to this defect. Why does it remain unassigned after 15 months and 7 releases later?

I don't understand why this bug or one of its many variants remains unassigned when the primary range weapon doesn't work on what must be a significant percentage of any world, i.e. on water.

If this is a duplicate of a bug report submitted last March then why does such a serious issue with the primary range weapon of the game remain unassigned?

Is there an FAQ that explains the life cycle of a bug report that you could point me to that would help answer this question?

Still happens with 1.8-pre2. I don't understand why this hasn't been considered a show stopper defect! This is a primary weapon in Minecraft and my guess is that the surface area of water is probably like that on earth--pretty significant. So we are talking about a huge problem here.

I have updated by Java to the latest version 7 (7u67) 64-bit, under Windows 8.1. I also have the x86 version installed on my system as well as the SDK.

I created a brand new single player world under 1.8-pre2 with cheats enabled so I could quickly go into creative and give myself a boat, a bow and a few arrows. I then left creative and went back into survival mode, set the boat on a small pond that was nearby, and proceeded to shoot 3 or 4 arrows that seemed to go no where. I heard a splash of water after shooting the first arrow and a second later I heard a thunk as if the arrow just hit my boat or a tree trunk. I was aiming at a vertical stack of dirt. Jumping out of the boat, by hitting 'shift', and my arrows were suddenly returned to my inventory!!!

I then went back into creative mode and got a piece of track and a mine cart, went back into survival, set the track and mine cart, and repeated the above test firing. No problems encountered when shooting from the mine cart.

I don't understand why this bug remains unassigned when it was first reported almost 6 months ago.

My primary bow is an enchanted Power 5, Unbreaking 3 bow. After posting my comment last night I decided to try a brand new, unenchanted bow. I see no difference in between these two bows. So it does not appear to me to be a problem with enchantments.

I also do most of my fishing at night so that is when I am usually in a boat and trying to fend off monsters that are trying to get me. But I just went out in broad daylight and by bow and arrow are still not functioning properly.

The question I have is, and I'm not sure if this is where to ask it, is anyone running the later 1.8 snapshots or the new 1.8-pre1 able to use a bow and arrow while in a boat?

If it matters at all I am running the 1.8-pre1 server on my Asus G750 gaming laptop and running the 1.8-pre1 minecraft client on the same laptop. Survival/normal mode. Windows 8.1 64-bit, Java 7u55.

1.8 Pre1: bow and arrow pretty much useless in a boat. You use up arrow inventory but there is no telling where the arrow went. Sometimes, not always, after a short delay, it sounds like someone just shot me with an arrow. Checking inventory to see a view of myself shows that I have no arrows sticking in me. I can't even hit a dry land from 8 paces away when in a boat.

I easily acquire the "sniper duel" achievement so it is not because I am such a lousy shot!

Copying world back to 14w32a makes all chests visible again.

I had this happen to me today with a world originally created with 14w31a (the lastest as of today). I accidentally re-entered this world after changing my profile to 1.74 Vanilla. The result was that my built world was intact but all inventory items from my person and all chests throughout my world were empty.

I reset my profile to 14w31a and re-entered my world again. All my inventory was still empty. Luckily I had saved a backup from earlier that day so I was able to recover somewhat.

I have seen a similar bug stating that downgrading wasn't supported. But this goes beyond that. Minecraft allows for multiple profiles for a given user, each with the option to set the Minecraft version. What I did was an accident but an accident that I believe will happen a lot in the future.

I entered a 14w31a world under a 1.74 vanilla profile and Minecraft gave absolutely no warning that my versions didn't match. This alone should be considered a bug, in my opinion. Had I been issued a warning I would have immediately remembered that I needed to change my profile back to 14w31a.

I have seen the same issue with chickens not following me when I have wheat seeds in hand. The chickens will go into love mode if I feed them (right click). The chickens simply flap their wings and act like they are trying to hop up a single block. I have seen this most often when the chicken is in the water trying to jump up onto dry land but I have also seen it happen on dry land.

There appears to be a general problem with chickens following me for any distance when I have wheat seeds in my hand. They will simply stop and refuse to move towards me on either dry, flat land or while swimming. It appears that I have their undivided attention but they simply refuse to move towards me. No monsters around or anything like that. This was the issue I was going to submit but chose to not duplicate MC-64497 and comment here instead. I have yet to try leading any other animals.

I am running single user mode with cheats enabled (for flight in creative mode) on 14w31a and I am not in creative when I experience this problem. Pretty much a vanilla MC 14w31a system running under Windows 8.1 on an ASUS gaming laptop.

I managed to get one chicken to follow me by pushing it along in front of me. This took way too long.

My present work around was to go into creative mode and grab about 3 stacks of eggs and shoot them against a cobblestone pillar inside a fenced area.
